“Nice location and service but tired decor and bad food”
Reviewed October 16, 2012 via mobile

We stayed here for a couple of nights. The staff at the front desk are friendly, speak english and were helpful with local directions. The location is very good, right in the center a block off the beach.

Room service for breakfast was really quite bad which is disappointing in a city known for it's food. Egss so salty they tasted of nothing but salt, a combination of canned and unripe fruit and some hard little rolls.

The room is a decent size and has large windows with a partial view of the water if you stand at the windows. The finishes are tired and cheap, laminate flooring which is falling apart, chipped and scratched furniture and cracked tiles all contribute to a sense of shabby cheap.

Rooms. 02 to 05 and 07, 08 have the best views, especially as the numbers go up. If you can avoid 01, 06, 09, and 15 as they are small corner rooms with only one small window

San Sebastian is a fantastic city full of life and beautifully located behind the three great beaches in the secluded half-moon shaped bays. Everywhere you find tapas bars, cafes and restaurants with excellent food and beverage served by informal and smiling staff, particularly in the old town. Shopping is also good as part of city walks. One day we walked nearly twelve kilometers along the sea-side and the streets just behind it. Tryp Orly is located right in the middle of it all.

We stayed 2 nights and found this hotel to be very good because of:
a) Room comfort - although a little small, the room size was adequate, the bed was comfortable and in general the room was clean.
b) Very friendly staff - they could not help us enough with any question. We got some great dinner recommendations and in particular in the old town, where choosing a pincho bar can be confusing.
c) Location - very close to the beach and near the old town.

The breakfast had many options and staff were very friendly and quickly replaced any empty dish.

Room Tip: Pay a bit extra and get a Sea View room which looks over Playa del la Concha.

Our room had a great view - as long as you could see past the exercise bike they didn't want to remove from the bedroom. The broken tile in the lobby hinted at the tired finishes of the rooms. Very nice folks working there - but not a pleasant place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for front rooms facing the beach.

The lobby has been refurbished and it gives the illusion of the hotel being somewhat decent. Good view of the town, sheets appear to be clean but it has dirty walls wall paper coming off the walls bidet not secured to the floor not that we would have used it in such a dirty room. Lollies left over from the last person, dated furniture. Feel like you need another shower immediately after having a shower. Wifi was really bad.
Don't waste your time.

We spent one week mid July in San Sebastian. We had our room on the 4th floor which actually is much higher, because the first floors are not Tryp Orly hotel floors and don't count. Room was spacious and the huge window gave a fantastic view over the city and the ocean further away. Nothing to complain in the bathroom either. Breakfast room was not too cosy, breakfast was ok but not very special and fully acceptable because you don't want to eat too much in the morning when you are in the city of culinarism...
Beach towels were available at the reception. Staff was very friendly and helpful; we had tried to make a reservation in the famous Arzak without any succes (fully booked), but through the reception we managed to get a table there anyway!

The location of the hotel could'nt be much better: Just walk over the street and you see the beach and walk 100 m more and there you are! After ten minutes walk you are in the cosy district Parte Vieja where you can find plenty of good restaurants serving tapas/pinchos.
Do as the locals do -walk around and stop in one place to have a glas of wine and one or two pinchos and then continue to the next place before dinner. If you eat enough pinchos you don't need any dinner:)

After eating too much (hard to avoid because everything is so tasty) it is good exercising to climb to Monte Urgull to see the old, low castle walls and a grand statue of Christ plus the stunning view of course!

Good location; comfy bed but there was noise from adjoining room & too expensive for what it was.
Great location: One block back from the beach and a less than 10 min walk to the old town where the action is.
Room: Comfortable bed and room but could hear noisy men talking through an adjoining (but locked) door in the next room late at night. No balcony; no view where we were. Block out curtains were really good.
Expensive: Pricy when compared to accommodation in the rest of Spain, but San Seb is pricier anyway.
Wifi: The free wifi is good in the small lobby; lousy in the room, pooh.
Reception: One really friendly lady who spoke English fluently and was very helpful. We must learn some more Spanish before we return.
San Sebastian is wonderful and we will return to eat pintxos, relax at the fabulous spa; and enjoy the vibe but would consider other hotels too. Btw, our friends say: “Don’t stay up on the hill”.
