Beautiful old school hotel. Huge lobby. Great service. Centrally located. Huge room. Separate bath and shower. Dry bar in lobby has some good drinks. It has 2 restaurants but we didn't try these. Gourmet shop has a great selection of Spanish foods and wines.More

The Maria was quite lovely. Historic architecture. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and comfortable. Convenient location. The breakfast buffet was delicious. The gym was nice. I do wish the hotel had a pool/spa area but I think they replaced it with a popular cooking school which I did not do. They recommended a spa area at the beach which was nice but overcrowded with beach goers. The city of San Sebastián is awesome and I’d definitely come back for the food and beach. If I had more time I would have driven up to a couple of the French beach cities, for sure.

Everywhere and everything in the hotel is branded "Luxury Collection Hotel." Read this to mean a Marriott Hotel. Unfortunately this very fine, elegant building is overshadowed by the Marriott one size fits all playbook-even at the luxury level. Don't get me wrong, the Maria Cristina a very fine hotel but by European grand hotel standards it could be so much more better.
The service from check-in to check-out is efficient but not personal. The concierge while trying to be of service is like the help desk at the airport. Sheer volume plays a part of the indifferent attitude.
A visit to the Dry Bar was a competition to get the attention of a server. One she arrived she was charming and began chatting about the highlights of the city only to disappear mid-sentence and not to return.
An amusing observation is the number of security men who stand around like the secret service, no smiles, watchful eyes.
We stayed 6 nights in a river view room adjacent to the Bette Davis suite. The room was pleasant with a view of the plaza, river and ocean beyond. The housekeeping service was efficient and very good.
A property in the "Luxury Collection" should embrace hospitality and kindness toward each person regardless of the number of the number of guests encountered. That should be part of the Marriott playbook too.

Located a mere 5-minute walk to the historic area, the Maria Cristina has beautiful rooms with great service. We only had breakfast here, which was very good with a full buffet. Staff was very attentive and helpful for all our requests, including making dinner reservations. This hotel definitely ranks as one of the finer properties in San Sebastian and you will be very pleased staying here.

We had a lovely stay at the Maria Cristina. Service was excellent, and the hotel was nicely located. We had a great pinxtos tour with Eskerne of Discover San Sebastián while staying here. Highly recommend both!

We totally enjoyed our too-brief stay in this gorgeous hotel. The room was quiet, very tastefully appointed, unbelievably great bed/bedding. Location couldn't be better. Expansive, delicious breakfast selections, wonderful dinner, pleasantly rowdy late night drinks with friends in the lobby bar. Air-conditioning worked well, very nice bathroom, and again, did I mention the bedding!
San Sebastian is our newest favorite place. So little time, so many pintxos!
