Busy, buzzy, great service and value. For me the best of the traditional pintxos bars. Try the beef cheeks. Mmmmmmmmmm.

This was one of the many places we went to during our "Pinxtos Crawl" and had the Pulpo, Crepes de Bacalao, Solomillo, and of course spanish wine . . .. you cant go wrong it is all great. . .the place was full of drunk Brits but that made place lively and spanish staff was friendly and approachable. . .you have to stand at bar to get full experience.. . .you wont be disappointed!

Mikal our server was great!

We came here at least three times on our daily pintxo crawl. We actually didn't have dinner at Gandarias but saw food being served and it looked delicious.
We'd generally come here for a few drinks and tapas before crawling to a few other places in old town. We loved the somillo (off the menu steak) it was delicious as was their mushroom tapa. Other favorites were the blood sausage and crab salad. This is a solid solid restaurant that never disappointed us. The service is also really great. We will definitely return here.

Gandarias was our last stop on our "pintxos crawl" through San Sebastian our first night in town and all of the tapas were great. I snuck into the dining room before we left for the evening and knew we had to return. The meats and other offerings we saw on display made me wish I wasn't so full. We came back for lunch the next day and we were glad we did. They were still mobbed at 3:30 in the afternoon and the waitress kind of politely frowned when we asked for a table for two. She said she would do her best to get us in within the next 30 minutes but, much to our surprise, she had us seated within 10. The menu was packed with all kinds of starters (entrees) and main courses, and we couldn't wait to dive in. Appetizers were a mixed salad (huge) and snails, the best I have ever had outside of home. They were small but tasty, almost 30 in my plate, served in a spicy red sauce peppered with chorizo sausage. We both picked lamb chops for the secondo, which were tender and flavorful, seasoned just right. The wine selection was vast, representing every sub-region throughout Rioja and Ribero, with a sprinkling of offerings from other parts of the world. Our service was split between two wait-staff who were both young, energetic, knowledgeable, and who spoke English well. Their service was efficient but not rushed and they really made us feel at home like we were regulars. There was no room for dessert, but what I saw on the adjacent tables around us all looked inviting. There are tons of choices for this type of fare within the old city of San Sebastian but this is one you should not pass up.

Great pintos, but fantastic dinner at a table. RSVP is a must. We had none, but got lucky as one, not very desirably located table near the bar was available. We were right to grab it. Great people serving you and cooking for you, all working as a team, fast, knowledgeable - great service, and fun to watch them D what they seem to love doing. They explain, show food before they cook (meats, fish). Fantastic meal, unusual, beautifully presented, fresh, of course, tastes delicious. Highly recommend. Absolutely great snails. Terrific grilled sole, special of the day, as well as squid in black ink.
