Owner description: Your first taste of txakoli, the sight of a bar filled with tapas, the smell of fresh olive oil being pressed, the feel of thinly sliced jamon iberico between your fingers...your senses are sharper at the source. We believe travel should be unique and personal, but most of all, it should be authentic. Explore a culture through its food and drink, its producers and chefs and the love and "mimo" they put into all their creations. Since we were founded in San Sebastian, Spain, in 2009, we strive to bring the mimo to visitors who want to immerse themselves in local food culture. Live the Mimo experience on our culinary tours, at our gourmet shops in San Sebastian (San Sebastian Food) and Sevilla (Mimo Sevilla), as well as in our luxury cooking school located in the Hotel Maria Cristina in the centre of San Sebastian. Our team of locals is passionate about sharing their culture, offering a taste of its delicious dishes, and welcoming you into the Mimo family.

“Wine tasting”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

We did the wine tasting and had such a lovely time. It was just the 3 of us doing the tasting so we had lots of time to ask questions and learn about the area. All the wines were great however, they didn't have them for us to purchase (thus the reason for 4 stars). We were directed to the shop close by but he didn't have any of them either. They have a nice selection of gourmet snacks for taking home with you. They also provided some great food advice and even made us a reservation for dinner. The guide (I can't remember her name but she was so much fun) walked us to a place for lunch and they ended up having the best risotto I have ever had! Thank you so much for such a personal experience. It made us feel like were were at home.

“thoroughly enjoyable”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

OK, San Sebastian is known for its Pintxos...but you have Pintxos and Pintxos. Do a tour with the San Sebastian Food company and you'll find out a lot more in one evening than you ever will in a week on your own. Personnel is very helpful, when we were late and phoned a girl just cycled back and briefly opened the shop for us to register us for the evening tour. En passant she gave us lots of tips for san Sebastian. Our tour was given by Lourdes, who is great company. Lovely lively honest and down to earth commentary and good conversation. We visited a number of very interesting places with great Pintxos and good wine. It's not cheap, but I can recommend unreservedly. And Lourdes should get a pay rise!

“Fun but poor value”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

Whilst the tour was informative and fun, I found that the amount you get to eat and drink was really rather mean. Over the course of 2 and a half hours we had 1 pintxo (typically one mouthful) at each bar, and sometimes an additional 1 or 2 to share between 8 of us. There was a good variety of drinks but again, with some bars simply having a 'shot' of "cidre" before moving on did not seem like good value at all.

For 90€ each we really expected to be well fed and not have to go find a restaurant at the end of the tour to go and buy dinner! I seem to be the odd one out for reviews of this tour though, perhaps we had a new guide?

Dear valued San Sebastian Food guest,

We at San Sebastian Food are happy you thought our Pintxo tour was fun and informative but genuinely saddened to hear you felt the portions were too small for you and your guest. Your guide on the tour has been with us for over a year and being native, she naturally shares San Sebastian with that lovely Basque charm and energy.

The tour visits six different pintxos bars tasting a variety of fish, seafood, vegetable and meat pintxos all paired with a selection of local Basque cider, Spanish red and white wines and usually closes with a rather delightful desert. We apologize you were not fully satisfied with the portions but grateful that you enjoyed the evening in our company.

Many thanks for your comments as we are always looking at ways to improve our San Sebastian Food performance and we look forward to welcoming you back to the city again in the not too distant future.

Best wishes,
Jon Warren | Founder & Managing Director

“Great Tapas Tour”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

We decided to do the tapas tour, but there are so many great options to choose from, we could be entertained for days. Our guide was fantastic and we enjoyed getting to know the others in our group. We tasted great tapas and it was a nice introduction to the food and the area. If you are going to San Sebastian, I highly recommend checking out their tour options.
