I've been here twice (over two trips to SS) and had totally different (but great experiences). The first time we came on a busy weekend and were lucky just to get a seat. We had pincho after pincho. The next time (this time) we came on a Thursday night and it was very quiet and allowed us to more properly pick our food.

Recommended items:
1. Shrimp wrapped in crispy noodles (has a sweet honey sauce and is fantastic)
2. The smoked fish that is smoked on your table itself
3. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY the Bob Limon. It comes out looking like an egg, and there is a range of delicious and interesting textures. The star of the dish is the 'yolk' - you put the whole thing in your mouth and the light coating bursts into a symphony of mango and citrus flavours. Wow wow wow.

Four of us visited Zeruko a few weeks ago for dinner. The restaurant was of course very busy despite it being early (8.30pm) and winter!
We were given a typically warm welcome; service was great and patient as we explored the offerings and came to terms with the unique style of ordering/selection and dining.
All dishes were terrific, with some unusual and particularly interesting items, most notably the beautifully prepared and really tasty sea urchin dish (see photo).
Wine list was good and was great value, as always seemed to be the case in Spain.
Zeruko was our first experience of pinchos and proved to be immensely enjoyable in all possible respects.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was wonderful - exuberant; busy, full of people enjoying themselves and the experience.
Staff were fabulous.
In athefoodie paradise which is san Sebastian, Zeruko compares favourably and is unreservedly recommended.

When you go into this place and others around el old town, you are really impress by the way they display the tapas and the pintxos. You actually start asking about almost all of them, but overall taste was average and nothing impressed me regarding taste.
It is still worth going to them to understand what the pintxos are and the way they are shown, but don't expect great taste (at least not here).
Note: They are not great, but not bad either.

They take their pintxos very seriously trying to offer something out of the extraordinary. Their specialities are: bacalao a la hoguera and rosa bocavante ie cod and lobster (I asked). You have to order them as they are not on Display. The bacalao a la hoguera comes on a mini-grill and you fry the Piece of cod some ten seconds and it is smoky after that you eat the tiny pastry pie and then drink a green liquid. It is literally sensational.

On the bar you will see various innovative pintxos including two types of sea urchins as an example. You point out what you want and they finish cooking it for you. It is indeed a very stylish and modern place probably also inspired by the density of Michelin star restaurants. That always inspires.

Service is professional and competent.

We have eaten here twice. This place is a true temple of the "pinxo" or smallish tapa which is favoured in San Sebastián.
There are a couple of tables and it is worth booking.
The first time we came we tried the "gastronomic menu" of pinxos, where a carefully choreographed selection is served working up through fish and seafood to finish with a fillet steak based tapa and then dessert. This wasn't offered the second time but in many ways it is more fun to choose a mixture from the bar and the menu on the blackboard.
The atmosphere can be quite smoky, not least due the the signature dish of cod a la "hoguera" or bonfire....this is a slice of fresh cod which you smoke yourself over a charcoal ember, and wash down with a test tube of liquid salad....try it!
