“Restaurant good, but wish we had the pintxos instead!”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

Good service at this attractive restaurant/tapas bar in the old section of town. The food was perfectly acceptable, but the tapas in the bar looked delicious. I think we would've been better off with those.

“Outstanding hospitality with food to match”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Our trip in San Sebastián started with a late night dinner at Bernardo Etxea. We found ourselves with shrinking choices as the clock was striking 11 pm. Although a late night foodie town, we were pushing it even by San Sebastián standards. But our tardiness was rewarded with a very nice meal and hospitality to match. We started upstairs with an assortment of pintos. A guindilla skewer here, a little cod and iberico pintxo there, throw in a little tortilla with morcilla, and now we ask "where can have dinner at this time"? The man behind the bar, sympathetically replied, this is it! You're eating here. He quickly had a table set up for us downstairs and we were greeted by a lovely hostess/waitress. I'll point out to say that she knew we were hungry, thirsty, and ready for more. Without prompting, a plate of chorizo and peppers arrived while we contemplated our dinner choices. Every choice we made was solid with special mention going to the kokotxas. A close second was the txipirones en su tinta. In all, we had a great time, a very nice meal, coupled with warm friendly service. My only regret about Bernardo Etxea was not having the time to return for another meal.

“A Memorable Lunch (Will Definitely Return)”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

If you like to order Spanish food from a colour shot, don't bother eating here, it's simply not for you.
However, if you enjoy outstanding, fresh fish in a real Spanish restaurant, with friendly and efficient
staff we would highly recommend it. Expect to pay around 120 E for 3 courses, bottle of wine and water....like anything in life.....you get what you pay for !!

“Great place to grab a snack!”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

We wanted to try a Pintxo bar since the town is famouse for them. Picked this place on a random walk and it hit the spot. This is kind of like Basque fast food. You walk in and there are plates of Tapas style food on the counter. They give you a plate you pick out what you want, order a drink (in our case tap beer) you pay at the cashier then sit down to eat. Like a cafeteria of sorts. Lots of seafood as you would expect, but not everything had fish and there was a good variety. They are nice about helping people who were not familiar with the system.
Tasty food. This place looks like they have a hotel and fine dining as well.

“A sit down meal”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

We really needed to sit down after many nights of bar hopping and pinxos bars.
Hotel recommended here.
Filled with locals, menu in English,so had a very nice evening with lots of fun and help from the waitress.
A good meal, all seafood, and a lovely waitress.
A who's who of photos on the wall, makes for a fun exit.
A bit on the expensive side.but really fresh seafood.
