Stayed for one night in July 12. Location is good, in the heart of Gros neighborhood. Beach is three blocks away and Old Town is reachable by foot in about 15 minutes. Reception was made by the owner, who was very friendly and helpful (also gave us great suggestions of places to eat!). We got room number 2. The room itself was very clean, modern and had a good space. Bathroom was impecable, very clean and also had a good size. Overall, the place was extremely welcoming and comfortable. Room had heating system but no air conditioning. Since San Sebastian is quite chilly at night, you probably won't miss it but if you book a room fronting the street (as number 2 was), it's impossible to sleep with windows opened as often you hear people talking loudly out there, so it can get a bit hot when you are sealed up in the bedroom. The hotel does not offer breakfast but you can find it easily at a cafe around the corner for around 5 euros - great deal. Wifi is available and the connection is pretty good. Definitely recommend it and would come back!

Room Tip: Try to book a room at the back of the hotel, it might be more silent

One of the best accommodations we've ever stayed at! On arrival, we were upgraded to the beautiful, spacious and modern apartment a few floors above the reception area. We absolutely loved it - it was well-equipped, clean and beautifully decorated. It was one of those places that made us not even want to return home! Needless to say, we were already very impressed, but to top it all off, we were met with excellent service and genuine care and attention from the staff. They truly went above and beyond, and made our stay the most enjoyable on our trip. It is not even a question that we'll return. I highly recommend this place, and think that it deserves a higher rank on TripAdvisor than it has right now. Thank you for the fantastic hospitality!

The affordable hotel was a surprise - for a "2 star" hotel it is very modern, very clean, and reasonably well located. Other than no mini bar, we can't see any reason why it is not rated much higher.

The accommodation takes the form of an apartment style building - you buzz in, take a flight of stairs (there is also a lift) and check in at the reception room upstairs.

The only issue is car parking - but that IS San Sebastian after all. Once we secured an overnight park in a nearby street, everything else is within walking distance... the old streets capes, cafes, bars etc.

The staff are so very friendly, and took an interest in where we were from and where we were heading.

A very pleasant stay.

Pension Altair is located in the "Gros" quarter of San Sebastian, which makes it a little bit off centre. The old city is a 15 minutes walk. Our room was located close to the reception, and we had some noise (due to thin walls I guess). Besides that, Altair offers very good value: modern, clean and really friendly and helpful service. The gothic arches add some character to the rooms too. There's free WiFi available.

This Hotel is actually two star, not what the name suggests. It was a complete surprise. Looks very modern. On the small side, but has everything you need. We located, good internet and comfortable sleep. Staff helpful.
When you arrive, you have to go to the first floor to check in. Bit confusing. Get on the lift and the Hotel reception on the right of the lift.
Well located to the centre of the old town, with plenty of places to eat. No breakfast available but not a problem.
Close to the beach and other attractions. San Sebastian is itself a wonderful place to visit. Loved it very much.
When you arrive, there is a taxi stand across the road you can unload your car. Be careful about parking, very expensive for public parking and the parking is restrictions are enforced.
I spoke to hotel staff about free parking - and with a 1.3 km walk parked free for the entire stay.
Up to you if you want to pay, I would rather walk and get parking free.

Room Tip: Parking can be obtained free. Ask at desk for location.

Very nice clean place to stay but the rooms on the front (rooms 2 and 3 I think) can be noisy. We were there on the evening before May Day (a holiday) and so there were people in the street until 4.30am. Not bad but if you can get a room at the back irt would be quieter. The reception is on the first floor (second floor for Americans) but they have a elevator for heavy bags. We paid the high season rate (as advertised on their website) the first night but reverted to a lower rate the second night without us asking. More thoughtful than most! The young guy at the front desk was very helpful. If you plan an early departure you have to check out the night before as the desk does not open until 09.30!

Good place for the price. We usually stay in hotels, and were not sure what a pension might lack. Sure, there is no lobby or breakfast, and the rooms are pretty basic. But really, to sleep when traveling, this is fine. The beds are clean and comfortable, bath is new and clean, internet works great. Based on reviews, I requested a quiet room with an arch. I think this is impossible, since the arches are on the rooms which face the street, and those rooms are near the entrance. A nice man checked us in, and advised about parking (saved us 20e by telling us about free weekend street parking), restaurants, directions. He offered us a different room that might be more quiet, but we opted for the charm of the room with the arch, and the view to the street. There was a little bit of noise from the street, and from the entrance, but for the most part it was quiet, and we slept well. We did not usually buy the hotel breakfast anyway, because it is usually pretty expensive for what we eat, so not having the option did not bother us at all. I walked out in the morning to a lovely little cafe (Cafe Tal, take a left out the door, and a left at the church), and brought coffee and croissants back to the room. Parking is free on the weekend, so we parked on the street for free. We moved to another pension after one night because we wanted to be closer to the old town. The neighborhood of this hotel, Gros, has restaurants, and is interesting in its own way, but we found that the extra walk kept us from going back to the hotel to regroup when we might have liked to. I would recommend this pension.
