“Great Hotel”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

The Hotel looks very nice from outside and also from the inside.
The room we had was very comfortable and spacious.
The wi-fi it's free but not very good, it will take ages to load and sometimes it wouldn't work at all.
Room service was great and the quality of the food outstanding.

We stayed here for 3 nights in June 2014. Our room was on the 4th floor at the back, very quite. We arrived at 10.30am, they let us have our room there and then, instead of waiting till 3.00pm in the afternoon which we thought was very good. Very clean, staff very nice and polite. We also had our last evening meal in hotel with our daughter and her boyfriend who both live in Bilbao, it was a lovely meal, well worth the money. We would stay here again. Money well spent.

Room Tip: rooms at the front, nice but a lot of traffic noise.

I write my review from suite 616 in the hotel. We arrived and asked for an upgrade and the staff upgraded us two grades above our original booking to a suite for 18 euros per night. The accommodation is great, very spacious and comfortable with not one but two televisions for enjoying a couple of matches of the world cup. We have the coloured windows that attracted us to this hotel and on the sixth floor you get a marvellous vista. We are on our way to France but could have done with another day in this lovely city. Bilbao is full of inexpensive cafes and bars and a trip to Plaza Nueva is a must. The Hesperia has not let us down and we would not hesitate to book here again. I believe I would not be so enthusiastic had we not upgraded but having said that I know that the staff would have been just as welcoming. The reception staff all speak good English which is good to find when struggling with Spanish. Hesperia Bilbao is a lovely place to stay and we will come back again.

Couldn't fault where this hotel is located. Turn left out of the front door & you are on the river. Turn right & El Goog is there. Turn left the Zubizuri bridge. 10 minute walk to the bars in C. Ledesmas.

Staff pleasant & good communicators.

The room was small but adequate. I must say that the aircon broke down on the last evening. Not a big deal as it was cool. Might be an issue later in the year. Very mean with soap for some reason.

Didn't eat at the hotel, but it looked adequate. There are far too many other choices in this city to eat in your hotel though.

Great hotel. Fantastic value for money and excellent service in the bar, breakfast and reception. Clean room (on side street). Fabulous location -across from Guggenheim and 15-20 minute walk to old town/convention centre. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: I was on the side street (above the entrance) -it was a bit noisy on nights when football was on tv...

Let's start with a wonderful location, just over the road from the Guggehnheim. We took the bus from the airport as it was an easy 10 minute walk from the nearest stop. The hotel is contemporary in design. We were upgraded to a suite with a view of the river and it a pleasure to walk the early evening promenading, jogging, dog walking etc. Reception staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. Good cafes within an easy walk. Hard to fault at what it does well. Not a great Wow factor but what they have and what they offer is excellent.

Room Tip: River facing is probably worth the supplement.

Booked online following positive reviews on Tripadvisor. We had driven from Santander and although we had SatNav with us the hotel would not have been difficult to find. We used the Hotels car park - 18 euro per 24 hours, which getting into and out of was 'entertaining' Located in the basement there is one single car width ramp for access both in and out, the rule being cars exiting have preference, even if you have to reverse back up and out ! Once down the ramp space is tight and spaces small. It's also not Hotel operated so they can't reserve a space for you. We parked and didn't move the car until departure from the Hotel.
Check-in was effortless, our room was clean if a bit small, everything in working order, nice bathroom, but the heat - outside it was 19C inside in the 30s, the aircon had not been switched to summer mode yet so all you got was cooler fresh air not chilled, this did not do much to reduce the temperature and the window had a sensor to turn off the aircon when it was opened. I slept on top of the bed, which was comfy. Breakfast was quite lavish in the choice available the coffee was good. Reception staff were helpful.
The hotels location was reasonable, Bilbao being quite compact most of what you wanted was within a 10 minute walk, we went to the Gugenheim there was no queue for tickets at about 1.30 ish, on a Thursday.
