I stayed in Pil Pil Hostel over 2 nights from 31 Jan to 2 Feb.

In terms of location, it is a great place to start exploring Bilbao because:
- it is just 5-7 mins walking distance from the Termibus station, which is the end-stop of the airport bus service Bizkaibus (number 3247 which takes only 20mins between Bilbao airport and Termibus and EUR1,40 per way). Pil Pil is located down this stretch Av. Sabino Arana 14. (Look out for this car showroom/carpet shop if you are walking from the Termibus)
- Staying near the Termibus station, you can also take buses out to other parts of Spain, including San Sebastian which is about 1.5 hrs away (AlSA offers half the rate but with fewer frequencies than PESA, you can buy return tickets on the spot at the machines at Termibus. Buying online is another option but they charge an additional booking fee)
- From the hostel, it is walking distance to all the key sights (Old Quarter) and museums (Guggenheim and Bilbao Fine Arts Museum) in Bilbao. Takes no more than a 30-45 slow stroll to the other end of the Old Quarter.

When I first checked-up at Pil Pil Hostel, they requested that I wear a waterproof, tear-proof paper bracelet for identification purposes. I thought this is a good practice and felt safe throughout my stay as a single female traveller.

The dormitory room I stayed in (labelled J) had 5 double-decker beds but it didn’t feel too crowded i.e. you can walk in with a small luggage bag without knocking onto anyone/thing along the way. Lockers with keys were provided but the locker itself was quite small, you definitely can’t fit an airline check-in cabin bag inside. Two clean sheets, a pillow-case and pillow and blanket were provided. The mattress I had was quite worn but it was thicker than I thought (not a thin mattress for sure) so it didn’t bother me at all. The lighting arrangement in the room was pretty good. The light switch at the door turned on the lights that go about 2/3 of the room. Once that is switched off, there is a light at the front that turns on automatically when you enter; you also have the option of 2-3 standing lamps to switch on without disturbing the others. There are a few power sockets for you to charge your phone inside the room.

Free Wifi is available throughout the hostel and has been reliable.

A simple breakfast is provided eg toast, cereal, milk, juice, coffee and tea. There is a toaster, fridge and microwave in the common area.

The washrooms and dormitories were very clean, spotless, and there were no litter at all. The shower cubicle is a standing shower, not spacious but good enough. They provide shower lotion soap but good to bring along your own shampoo and conditioner. Towels are available to rent for EUR2 each.

The ladies I bunked in with happened to be all very considerate, quiet, non-smokers and they all slept by 12 midnight, so I had a very restful 2 nights! PIl Pil is located on a quiet street so it was peaceful at night during my stay.

Staff were friendly and was able to recommend me places to visit in Bilbao. They also give out free Bilbao maps.

Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay in Bilbao.

I've slept in the dorm room and apart from some snoring guy, I had a very good sleep in a comfy and modern bed.
Rooms and common areas are always in order and cleaned quite often as you can smell the bleach; you can always have a free coffee or tea and a perfect wifi connection.
You are also provided with a locker and a bracelet as a personal id, which makes you feel safe.
I would suggest a bit more ventilation of the rooms but this was nothing compared to other hostels. The staff is quite attentive to your needs, which is unusual if compared even to some hotels.
Keep up with your great work!

I always thought bad about hostels, cause often they aren't clean. I remember many times I was in a hostel that it was really dirty and the staff was also totally not friendly but u guys changed my opinion completely! This hostel was so cozy, amazing friendly staff, well docorated, such a good location, so unbelievable clean.. I couldn't imagine it so clean! This is the way to treat ur guests right and have them a nice stay. The only thing that didn't work was the light of the toilet. It went on and off all the time. But whatever: I wanna go back!!!! I love Bilbao and PIL PIL Hostel!! Best hostel ever!!!

Room Tip: All rooms are chilly and cozy so it doesn't matter which one you choose! :D

This hostel is a great place for everybody if you travel alone with family or friends. It´s always clean, the people who work here are very friendly and nice to everybody but in the same time stick to the rules of the hostel that regard quaiet times during the night. I spent here more than one week now and I feel like home.

This was our first hostel we had stayed in and it was excellent. Very clean and the staff were so friendly and helpful - they didn't mind answering our many questions about where to go! Bilbao is relatively small so it didn't matter that this hostel wasn't directly in the hustle and bustle of the main part. We walked to places like the Guggenheim which took about 10-15 minutes and was very pleasant. Tram stop directly outside the hostel and 5 minutes from the central bus station in Bilbao. Would really reccomend!

I have started my Camino de Santiago from Bilbao and this hostal was the first stop on my way. Location is very good 3-5 minutes walk from bus station and metro station. also you can easy get the centre by walk, many restaurants and supermarkets a re not far from here. Very clean and well-designed. Great staff! They kept my big bag whole month at the storage when I when my camino with my backpack. Also they allowed to order the guide book to the Hostal address. Nice lounge with the small and well-equipment kitchen. Wi-fi is free and available in the lounge. And there is small nice courtyard. You can observe local life behind you)) Good value for money.

Room Tip: I stayed at the room which has directly door to the courtyard. Very quite.
