“Quiet for a large Hotel”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

The staff in this Hotel we found to be friendly and helpful, I found the lift a bit disconcerting being all glass and quite fast, zooming up from reception. The hotel has an underground carpark €24
Expensive but worth it. w e did not eat in the Hotel, have since read it has one of the best restaurants in Bilbao ( should have checked TripAdvisor) the room was large with a beautifully appointed bathroom, obviously air con, only on when key card inserted as usual. Lovely comfortable twin beds, windows that overlooked the river, with electric roller blinds one blackout and not.

I am really dissapointed with this hotel, lacks so many things that a 5 star hotel should enjoy.
reception is cold and many times understaffed, so queing became the norm...From the taxi, the reception arrival is up some stairs and with suit cases difficult to manage.
No sign of help, from anyone

The rooms are ok but not 5 star,

The breakfast was very poor compared to other Melia hotels, but still priced high, maybe the staff should check out Mallorcan Melia hotels on how to do it,

If the Guggenheim was not close by, I really would struggle with too many positive points.
The Gym was ok but and the pool was very small with no outside areas to relax and enjoy a little sun.

i love the Melia brand and have stayed in many hotels but this one is far behind others

Room Tip: ask for one over the park veiw

Modern hotel in the modern section of downtown Bilbao, within easy walking distance of the Guggenheim Museum. Large room and bathroom, with very comfortable twin beds. Very quiet. Excellent restaurant. Helpful staff.

I came here to attend a conference at the convention center right across the street. They have comfortable, spacious rooms with a great views of river or park, but my room had a bit of a funny smell and it was usually 28C degrees (82F) by the end of the day (the keycard has to be inserted to turn on the power, so you can't leave a/c running), being on the west side of the bldg.
I didn't get breakfast because it was an extra $30/day, and I can't imagine what I could eat for breakfast that would make the extra charge worth it. You can get great coffee and pastries at any bakery for about $5.
The beds are fairly comfortable, but if you need a dark room to sleep, it might prove difficult here; the shades let a lot of light through from sunrise onward.
Melia provides a full range on toiletries, including body lotion, and it was restocked every day, but despite signs stating they're environmentally friendly, they cleaned and changed towels daily regardless of whether you left them in the bathtub.
Never mind the swimming pool. It's more like an oversized, cold jacuzzi, so you couldn't actually swim laps in it without getting dizzy.
They provide decent service, though. The staff is friendly and helpful, and both the restaurant (see other review for Aizian) and lounge are top notch.
So while there are some areas where it falls short, the Melia is overall a pretty decent place to stay.

Room Tip: The rooms get a lot of sun even through the shades, so be mindful which direction you'd like to...

For the price I expected a little bit more. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, no English tv channels, the blinds let all the light in and the walls are paper thin. The Spanish like to be up at all hours of the morning so trying to sleep is very difficult. If you're not dressed in a suit you'll be made to feel very uncomfortable by staff. The swimmingpool is very small and there is no option to lay around it. It's either swim or get out. The wifi is annoying as it keeps switching on and off. The positives are it's in a great location and the beds are comfortable. I'd look elsewhere tho if you are expecting a 5* hotel.

The only thing we could say while entering the lobby was: WOW! Very warm colours, modern design and the polite and friendly staff make this place an amazing place to stay.

We stayed for 6 nights to discover the entire city, and the melia turned out to be the perfect hotel. The location is fabulous: on walking distance of the Guggenheim, 5' from the central square (Plaza Moyua), 15' of Termibus and next to the river. You won't find a better place to discover all the different areas of Bilbao.

And after you visited the entire city, it almost feels like 'coming home'. The rooms are very spacious, comfortable and equiped with every facility you'll need. And for the energy for all your discoveries, you can rely on the elaborate breakfast buffet.

Just sole final props to the staff, they are friendly, polite and subtle. In a blink of an eye they are ready to help you with anything.

This is absolutely an amazing hotel. I can only recommend the Melia for a citytrip to Bilbao! Enjoy your stay!

Good rooms, service and food. Breakfast spread is huge. Rooms are very large for Europe. Beds are nice. Location is great.

The down side: Smoking is still allowed. This hotel needs to get with 90's where smoking was banned in offices. Its expected on business trip too, especially at the price per room.
