I went there alone with my 2 kids (7 and 12) in August 2012. Service was great and very nice while not intrusive. The surroundings are very nice and you can either use your car and the hotel's parking or easily get to the public transportation which leads you either to the city center or to the sea side. The hotel is from walking distance of the Guggenheim. The hotel is also in a park so kids can run and have a fun time easily.

The outdoor pool and the fitness centre are very clean and great. The breakfast is incredible. Room was big with a terrace.

The kids and I highly recommend this hotel !

this hotel is wonderful to look at the glass lifts and high ceiling in the lobby are quite spectacular as are the views from the rooms which are very nicely fitted out and decorated .every thing you need is provided especially a proper hairdryer and not one of those wall mounted rubbish ones most hotels favour.the bar is lovely and staff /service very good
breakfast is okay but quite expensive £16.00euro if booked the night before £22.00euro if you don't
perfectly located beside the guggenheim and a short tram away from the old town which has some lovely bars and restaurants .

Steps away from the Guggenheim Museum, this hotel is a work of art itself. It's filled with contemporary art. Rooms are high, wide, and modern, with glass, steel, stone, and wood trimmings. It looks massive, but the comforts and the views from upper floors are amazing.

Everything is well thought-through and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Great location if you want to stay close to the airport (about 10-15 min drive)

Room Tip: Get a corner room on a higher floor: the views are brathtaking!

This is an excellant property adjacent to a beautiful park. It is also within easy walking distance of the Guggenheim. The room was large with a great view. There is also an excellant retaurant in the hotel. I highly recommend the Melia.

We spent three nights in the Melia Bilbao at the end of October. The room was spacious, clean, and had a great view across the river. The bathroom was spacious and comfortable. The hotel is located on the west side of town close the art museum and within an easy walk of the Guggenheim. The walk to the old town is pleasant. There is a public parking around the corner if you find the hotel a bit stiff.
The restaurant Aizian was not open on either Saturday or Sunday evening. However the bar/bistro in the hotel does a great 3 course menu for under 30 euros. We can highly recommend it as we ate there twice. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
The gym is well equipped and comfortable. The outdoor pool is heated. The separate saunas are just big enough to accommodate two.
I would readily recommend this hotel to others. I don't think I would rate it as five star, but we didn't pay a 5* price so I was more than happy with the price/quality ratio.

Bilbao was put on the map of Europe by opening the new Museum about 15 years ago. Certainly it is worth the trip to see the building though the exhibits might be perceived as somewhat controversial and certainly not fitting into traditional taste. The hotel is, however, great and should be primary choice if you go to Bilbao. The service is polite, accommodating and they speak English fluently. Rooms are large, nice views and breakfast are really very good. We have not found one thing to complain about. So go for it with confidence!

This hotel is in a good location close to the Guggenheim and city center. It has a car park in the basement which is expensive @ € 24 per night. There is a small shopping center close by. The hotel has an unimpressive entrance and lacks atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. On Sunday morning I had to join a Q and wait 15 minutes for to enter the restaurant for breakfast because of lack tables which was disappointing for a 5 star establishment. The hotel definitely lacks the class and facilities one would expect from a 5 star rating.
