The location is great, free internet is nice, possibility to reserve a parking is cool, friendly staff is a must, the options they offer (we got 3 nights in a double for 303 Euro including free (plain) breakfast and 2 tickets for the Guggenheim) interesting, free pet admission is a lovely plus. But all those things are useless if you miss the basic: no drop off area so you need to pray the Lord, find a spot were leave the car (I left it in a theater only area with my wife inside) get your parking access and then walk back to the hotel with your luggage; the room is nice, small but nice, however the bed is harder than a rock (even when they have a couple of slack missing like mine), the pillows thin and worthless, the hydro massage shower (the best feature of the room) did not work and the air in the room was stale even with the windows open.
Kudos for the optionals but the main reason why people get hotel rooms is to sleep and rest and that was almost impossible at this hotel

Room Tip: Do not get the first floor

Having stayed at other 'Petit Palace' hotels before I didn't think twice when I had to stay one night in Bilbao. Up to now it has always been a delight. Regretfully not this time. Upon arrival we were given a room on the first floor which hadn't been cleaned yet. I think staff should check this before giving keys to new guests. When we told the reception gave us a new room right away but still... The new room on the second floor was good except for the bathroom. It stank. Mold could be seen on the ceiling. The laminate floor was becoming detached because of humidity. The shower comparent could use a deep clean as well. As we were there only for one night and gad to leave early in the morning I didn't mention it but I would not have stayed a 2nd night in that room. Saying that I love the other 'Petit Palace' hotels and will go back there.

Although a great location. Our room was an inside room looking over an air conditioning unit. A dark small room , no storage space and an unhelpful reception. Ruined an otherwise great northern Spain adventure.

Room Tip: Make sure you have an outside room and check it before registering.

This hotel is in a great location...but also has the metro train and all the buses running right underneath the windows and is close to a major park which had very loud, not enjoyable music going on the weekend til past midnite. Our room had 2 very large mirrors..and a dark purple ceiling...thought I'd ret'd to the 70's. Shower w/ a ton of shower heads..which didn't work nor did the wi-fi in our room. Not sure how old this building is..but there is a snack bar on the top floor and my husband noticed the way the original wood planks were put together was using pieces of wood versus nails....so it's been around awhile. We were on the 5th floor...took one elevator up a floor and had to walk down the hall to a 2nd elevator to get to the 5th. We will say no matter who was on the front desk they were extremely helpful...

We'd seen this hotel on previous visits and thought it was well-located. It is, and you won't be disappointed with its position in Bilbao: very convenient for the old town, the river and the tram stop. We chose it this time because it had a special offer.
It now advertises itself as a High Tech Hotel. Hmmm. I wonder which advertising guru thought that one up? The building itself is quaintly old-fashioned and situated in the ancient centre. The air-conditioning unit in our room was near-enough medieval, and did not work at all. We stayed in October and it was 28 degrees outside. We spent an uncomfortably warm night listening to a lot of street noise which wasn't eliminated by the double glazing. The TV had only 3 channels on it and resisted all attempts to retune it. (Room 207)
Maybe the HiTech thing referred to the shower which had all sorts of knobs and nozzles?
Overall, the hotel was OK for a short stay, but it looked a little bit down-at-heel, with cracked windows at the front and obvious issues all round with things like grotty grouting and stains on the curtains.
A power shower and a vending machine do not a HiTech Hotel make......
The receptionist didn't enquire about how we'd enjoyed our stay and I suppose there was little point in complaining after the event, especially as I'd paid upfront, but I don't think I'd stay there again.
