I booked a room here in the very last minute because the rate was good and the location was what I wanted. I am afraid the pictures were much nicer than the reality. I got a very small and noisy room, with a good collection of scratched furniture and stained covers. The internet connection didn't work the first day, and the second did do much better because the signal was very weak, so it typically took me ten minutes to get the list of email in my inbox. Not good for a Hi Tech hotel, according to their website.

Pros: decent breakfast, smiling service and good location if you want to stay in the old city center (casco viejo). But, as Bilbao is really small, you are always in walking distance here...

Dear Guest,

The beauty of our hotel is that it is a centenary hotel totally refurbished but keeping its personality and introducing modern design, furniture and high tech equipment that unfortunately depending the number of guests accesing internet at same time may comes slow, not usual but sometimes happen. We are sorry for the inconveniences this may causes during your stay.
Hope we will pleasure you next time, thanks for your comments.

Didn't look much like the photo. Good location in old town but quite a bit of noise on saturday night untill 4 in the morning. My mum didn't sleep too well due to very firm beds but the staff put some blankets under the sheets and it got better. Nice clean rooms. Would have liked tea and coffee making facillities instead of a machine on the 1st floor serving undrinkable pre sweetened stuff. All in all a pleasant stay and efficient service.

Just got back from 5 nights in Bilbao. Loved it. Only paid £25 each per night including a full breakfast which had so much to offer nobody could complain. The hotel is in a noisy spot but that just added to the charm for us. We were on the 5th floor looking out on the theatre and kept the windows open. Yes you could hear the trams etc. but that meant you were close to public transport. The rooms were modern and clean and it is a great conversion of an old building.
Would recommend Bilbao Greeters that I arranged to meet us at the hotel and that was a great idea - talk about inside knowledge!
Marivi took us around for 4 hrs.she showed us how to buy the transport ticket from the machine by the tram stop. We hardly paid anything after that. We also went up to Begone up the lift, onto the metro, and to too many to mention places of interest.
She also told us how to get to San Sebastián for the day and up to the bridge at Portgalatte.
So much to do- also enjoyed view from funicular and the pintxos from the local bars.
Enjoy!

You could not see the Guggenheim from our window but it really didn't matter. We could see across the road to the river, where there were people dancing, crowds shopping and laughing and at night the most beautiful view of the lake and bridges.

This hotel is absolutely stunning! From the room with it's french doors opening onto the wonderful sounds of Bilbao to the unusual architecture in this gorgeously hotel. It was confusing, in a wonderful way. Some parts being so historic and classical looking and others modern and chic.

The staff were wonderful, very welcoming.

The shower was fantastic!

I wish we could have stayed longer, it was just perfect

A nice, smart hotel in a decent location for the city centre - not dead in the lively part of the city, but everything walkable and close to the tram. Rooms were a nice size and perfectly pleasant, internet was free too, which is always nice!

However, not by choice. We only wish we could have stayed the whole weekend. We had pre-booked a quiet twin bedded room (we got a fairly noisy double!) for two nights. However, after a disastrous flight which meant our arrival was 9 hours later than it should have been, my husband was taken ill. We spent one night in an immaculately clean very modern and comfortable room. The Saturday night life from the street below was fairly noisy and, be warned, the walls are Very Thin: we could hear our neighbours either side, and the occupants of the floor above us were not considerate neighbours ! TIP: Ask for a room on the top floor, and not over the street. We managed breakfast, which is held on the top floor in a charming room. The choice of food, and the quantity of it, was excellent. The coffee machine is a marvel and produces the perfect cup. When we realised it was urgent to come home, the hotel could not have been more helpful. They produced the bill very quickly and also called us a taxi to take us back to the airport. They were quite within their rights to charge for the two nights we had reserved, but did not. A kind gesture. Hopefully, we will return to Bilbao one day to do all the things we had planned. In that event, we will stay at the Petit Palace. It is ideally situated on the fringe of the Old Town, and is also within walking distance of The Guggenheim and new town.

Room Tip: Top Floor, NOT over street.

The Petit Palace Arana in Bilbao is located in the centre of Bilbao, twenty minutes walk from the Guggenheim Museum. We were looking forward to our room after a long drive but were disappointed as it was just ok. There were no views from the windows in our room, only walls. Although the room was clean it felt a bit grubby, the decor was tired and needed sprucing up. There was mould around the base of the shower and the shower controls needed fixing. The laminate around the bathroom sink had seen better days. Nothing to write home about. I felt let down with the level of finish of the room.
Breakfast was good enough and you could eat as much as you liked.
The hotel lent out bicycles to guests, which we borrowed. They were fold up bikes and we got around but the chains kept coming off and we felt a bit silly on them. Not the best in the world.
This hotel was probably very good, decoration wise, ten years ago but needs some attention now (at least the room we stayed in).
There were no tea/coffee making facilities. (minor but essential in my view!). The free wi-fi was welcomed, this was free for 72hours, you got a username and password from reception.
Obviously, due to its location, there is no car parking. We parked in an under ground car park about 5mins walk away. It cost 16 euros a day. The hotel has spaces but was full during our stay, even though we requested we would need parking when booking. Some concession in lieu would have been welcome. However, it did give us peace of mind knowing the car was safe and was near by.
For a quick break and an anonymous stay it was ok. The location was excellent with the metro, buses and trams within walking distance.
