My friend had booked this restaurant , when our first choice was closed on a Tuesday when we visited Bilbao, but we were not at all dissappointed .This is near the Guggenheim but looks like a small shop ,but looks deceive, inside it opens into an L shape room not large but very atmospheric, I have attached a few photo's , staff were attentive and we chose the spring gift of land tasting menu for 55 Euro + tax , we let the waiter chose the red wine which at 18 euro was very reasonably priced and tasted great .We had selected two white wines from an extensive choice.
The food indeed was pretty pictures on a plate 8 courses and a considerable amount of theatre in the presentation, starting with bread selection and two choices of Olive oil ,one tomato flavoured the other banana which was unusual to say the least. We were treated to Asparagus frothy yoghurt, Ceviche of barnacles , sauted soft egg with truffels and mushrooms , a speciality fish cheek dish with Quinoa , some beautiful Tuna , and Iberica Ham dish, followed by a jar of warm milk on what I think was honey that curdled after 3 minutes , again a first for me but delightful. Finally the mousse that was frozen in liquid nitrogen at the table and served with a toffee sponge . If you would like to try something different with Basque overtones this is definitely worth a try

Kitchen cooking all day..no need to stick to Spanish hours..just book and go
The hotel Miro made a reservation for us, make two right turns from the hotel and just across from the Guggenheim you'll find it.
We had the green risotto, vegetables from their huerta, oysters, a mixed salad and a steak tartare, a fine bottle of Rioja Viña Tondonia 2001 and a fluid chocolate dessert, the bill was 165 euros, not cheap but well worth it, one of the best meals we ever had in Spain.
We left slightly inebriated and forgot our credit card but lo and behold; back at the hotel there was a knock on the door and the card was delivered just 10 minutes later!

We where a happy couple thrilled to have dinner at Porrue. We left it to be our goodbye from Bilbao. The place is cool, yet:
1 - the chef/owner was much less friendly with us when he saw that we where having some difficulties in deciding. Even more when we asked him if we could have 3 starters and one main for both. He just answered: "depends on what main you´ll ask for", meaning depending on the price!!!
2 - I could not imagine that in this kind of restaurant one could cut the bread, and seconds after, with the same exactly hand, without washing it, pick a fish and show it to a table, and then continue to cut the bread!!!
3 - the bathrooms are to dark, given the fact that we need light in a restroom.
4 - we felt insulted for having been served water (without being asked what would we like to be) costing 5€ each!!!
5 - the food was nothing but good.

The best was the waiter, very friendly and respectful.

We saw Porrue when we were looking for a cab. We were planning to have lunch in Bilbao's old city but decided to stay in this area near the Guggenheim instead. I'm happy we did! The service was unpretentious and always with a smile. We were advised fantastic wine pairings. Both meat and seafood dishes were superb. Just order anything, you can't go wrong. The flavour combinations were unexpected -- I ordered octopus and it was served with yam and jelly-coated mango syrup. It was just a fantastic combination of flavour and my taste buds were dancing with joy!

The restaurant's interior is modern yet still cosy and perfect for a romantic date or a special occasion.

The food and service here was exceptional.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful throughout the meal.
We had the tasting menu which I'd highly recommend.
There were some dishes which were some of the best food I've ever eaten.
The night before we had eaten at Arzak (supposedly in the top 10 restaurants in the world), we enjoyed Porrue more and the bill was a third of the price.
If I had to find any criticism it would be that there is a slightly greasy smell when you first walk in which is a bit off putting but this disappeared after a few minutes and I really wouldn't let it put you off.
I'd probably make a trip to Bilbao just to eat here again.
