Porrue takes food seriously but is completely unfussy. The small frontage opens up into a wine bar with a few tables, and a handful more around the corner. Because we arrived at 8pm- a ridiculously early time in Spain, the place was deserted; by the time we left at 10pm it was full. The young staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Every element adds to the experience- even the bread entails bringing a butchers trolley to the table and a choice of crusty white breads or dark springy brown is cut and replenished throughout the meal. The choice of oil includes one infused with artichoke. We chose 4 dishes to share, brought out one after the other. The octopus in particular is delicious. The local tempranillo wine was recommended by staff and was a good choice. This is fine food - the bill ( presented in an elegant box used for expensive cigars) for 4 dishes, wine, coffee and mineral water came to c €150. www.porrue.com
