“Possibly the worst service in the world?”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

Bilbao is a beautiful place but the contrast with the hotel could not be greater. The staff are miserable beyond belief and have a look of aggression when you talk to them that suggests you have dragged them away from far more important tasks such as chatting to their friends. To give this one star would be generous. Everything you ask for - from simple directions onwards - is treated as a major problem and they say they can´t help. Been here 2 days and have yet to see anyone smile. One tiny window in the room. Pillows are hard and wafer thin. Beds have a pronounced sag in the middle - that make it impossible to get comfortable. Not one person has greeted us when we walk in - really v poor for a supposed 4 star hotel.

I'm saying very good because we had a brilliant room with a rooftop terrace and an amazing power shower, right in the heart of Bibao, for £100 a night during the BBK festival weekend. But, I agree with several of the other reviews... badly in need of a refurbishment (old carpet, water/damp stains, shower door didn't close properly, satTV didn't work). I paid 18 euros a day to keep the car in the hotel garage... seemed a lot for Spain BUT... really worth it when you see how difficult it is to park and get around by car in the city centre.

Room Tip: 1002 has a roof top terrace!!!

The Ercilla has a good location in central Bilbao, not far from the museums and next to the shopping area. The hotel serves ok and is clean, but the interiors and room furniture and fittings show their age. The lighting is scarce, perhaps to cover the ageing? Did not try breakfast or dinner because there are so many good places in the old town and 3 Euro breakfast bars in the next block.

Looked up the hotel, saw it was 4 stars and you get maybe 2 stars instead. The location is very good, close to all the sightseeing but the room I had was very dark, only one hard pillow and the breakfast wasn't that fresh either. For a 2 star hotel I would give a better rating but as it's advertised as 4 stars, I give the lower one.

The location is very good. surrounded by shops and 10 mins from guggenheim. Apparently it has been superficially renovated but its not enough to cover the mistakes. the room was huge and the marble bathroom either. but the floor moquette was very old and everything looked poor and without character. the people are nice but not teally helpful. Not a great breakfast. free wifi.

Stayed only one night and left without a chance to try the breakfast. The lobby is very spacious and decorated with in modern style that seems slightly outdated already, but its pleasant. You can feel that although it might not look much this hotel as pride and heritage in the city of Bilbao. Friends in Spain could testify. The corridors are elegant and the room was very nice. Enormous bathroom with sliding doors that opens for the possibility to make the bedroom and the elegant bathroom on room, which I like. But also has the possibility of privacy. I never understood the trend of glass doors in hotel bathroom doors. the comfy bed had a sofa at the end with the same width. A very nice feature when you are two and want to relax.

this is a decent place to stay at. Nothing fancy and the room are quite old, but everything works and is clean. The wifi can be desperately slow. on the good side, good tapas (or pinchos) bars around, and very decent rates.
