“Good for the thighs!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012

There are some very mixed reviews about these apartments. We found them to be very agreeable. Pretty good value actually!

From Bilbao airport take the bus into the main square. Then walk to the Gugg and take the tram to Atxuri stop (end of the line) Then simply walk up the hill for 10 mins.

The apartments are well kitted out. ask for 401 on the top floor right by the roof terrace. There is no wifi or Air con in the apartments which is a pain these days. Burn off those pintxos (best are at Irritzdi unbelievable 4 glasses of wine and 6 pintxos for 18 euros) walking around the city. We didn't feel very safe in some of the streets of the old town at night and it made you walk fast uphill back to the apartments.

Do visit a tiny back street bar at the bottom of the hill set back from the main street and roughly behind the pharmacy.

Rest those tired thighs on the Euskotren to San Sebastian. It is 2 hours 40 mins for 5.10 Euros!! Amazing journey........

Staying here gave us a good opportunity to explore Bilbao. Slightly up the hill near the old part of Bilbao we had the perfect basis to discover the city. 'Our' apartment on the first floor was clean, comfortable and with good beds to restore the energy for the next day. The location is slightly uphill near the historic area. Facilities were good, although we missed a dishwasher, but adequate for our stay. The garage below the building had good security measurements and was spacious enough for any big car. Wifi is only available in the lobby, not in our room, although I really would have liked that. The location was in a quiet area, with hardly noise coming from outside.

Room Tip: All rooms seems to be fine

11 of us away on a 50th weekend. Stayed at the Atxuri and only paid £50 each for two nights.

The apartments are about a mile from the centre of Bilbao but closer to the old town where most of the more interesting bars are.

The apartments themselves were extremely modern, clean and spacious and far better than what you would normally find in Spain. I would thoroughly recommend these to groups, couples or families and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if back in the City.

We stayed at the Atxuri for a long weekend in July. The apartment was spacious and we both had seperate double beds which was a surpirse considering that we were half expecting the second bed option to be a pull out sofa bed.
Great facilities - open lounge/kitchen with a sofa, dining table and loads of china, cooking utentsils if you did want to use the cooker and eat in the apartment. Only down side was that for us Brits, there was no kettle for a cup of tea!
Modern decor throughout with a spacious lounge and fantastic roof terrace. Location enabled you to jump on tram within a 5 minute walk and distance to old town was also easily reached with a 10 min stroll through the side streets.
Recommend supermarket "carrefour" directly opposite the indoor food market (this is ok for cheese and meat) but advise to go to carrefour for everything else.
Staff were friendly and accomodating - would recommend the apartments for either families or a group of friends.

Lovely appartment - ideal for a family of 4. Well equipped - even down to dish cloths and tea towels.
Furnished to a high standard. Reception and guest lounge area were very nice - and although we didn't use it, the gym looked ok. We did like the option of a roof terrace - and took our drinks up to sit and look over the city.

It was a very hot and humid night in August when we stayed there and we missed having air conditioning - it is in the public areas, but not the appartment.

We did leave the windows open - but it was noisy from the road.

I thought the appartment was well located - having secure parking was great (you have to pay alot for parkiing in Bilbao - so it is a good idea to leave your car at the hotel).

It was only a 5 - 8 min walk to the old town and the tram stop was only 3 min walk away. We took the tram to the Gugganheim - it was very straightforward and quick.

The appartments are on the edge of some of the poorer parts of the old town - but these were easily skirted around.

The person who checked us in - was really helpful and gave us a lot of information to enable us to get about the city and also advice on where to eat. He spoke good English.

Room Tip: Try to get a room near the top floor so you can easily get to the roof terrace for drinks etc.

The overall opinion of the hotel is rather negative. Here is the list of things we did not like there: 1. the arrogant and inhospitable reception staff (the room was booked well ahead with some simple requests like top floor room or a balcony and none of them was taken into account) 2. the furniture and the equipment of the room are unsatisfactory. We have never slept in a worse bed. The lack of dishwasher or any washing up liquid to do the washing up 3. You can hear exactly what people do or say in the other rooms or bathrooms. You have an impression that the walls are made of paper. 4. the LACK of WIFI in the rooms. You have to get down to the lobby to check the mailbox or surf the net. 5. The underground parking is ridiculously small and pricy. Don't park there if you have a big car. It is so tiny especially the passage between the floors that you can easily damage your car. 6. The location. It is far from the old town. The nearest bus stop is not so close. It is uphill so it is quite a walk. The area around is probably the poorest in the town so it makes it rather dangerous at night. The view from the room is depressing. 7. There are just Spanish channels as if only Spanish speaking guests were staying in this hotel. 8. The lack of air conditioning .9. The bathroom is too small.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this apartment. Our suite was very clean, spacious and well equipped. The lobby was inviting. There was a lovely lounge, big community room and excercise room for guests. We particularly loved the hallways lined with samari statues. The staff were very helpful and accommodating, particularly Jose Contreras. We give him a 10+!!! He is such a nice young man.
We highly recommend this hotel.
