“Big, clean, nice, modern and a bit impersonal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2014

A nice hotel with a impressing view over the outskirts of Bilbao. Everything with the room was excellent. It gave good sleeping for the night. The bathroom was super with some good specimens of soap and shampoo and very pleasant towels.
The Safe was enough for my laptop and the wi-fi connection was simple, fast and very well working.
Nice breakfast and we were especially fond of the cheeses and a lot of sweet bread and cakes.
The only drawback is that the hotel is not central, but instead easy to reach by car. Probably my choice next time if I go by car.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at one of the higher etages

I have to say I'm surprised that this hotel has received so many upbeat reviews.

The reception staff were fine, as was the poor overworked yet surprisingly good-natured chap doing the breakfasts (where the understaffing was inexcusable).

Service out of hours was thin to say the least and the layout of the hotel and its barren courtyard were depressing ( - why not take some inspiration from the Guggenheim?).

It felt like some sort of private hospital - sorry, but just not my scene at all.

I've stayed in for two nights last April. It is very confortable, rooms are nice with great daylight. We walked 10 minutes to the city center, but it is worst coming back, because we have to go up..Common areas are pleasant, and wifi is present in all areas. It worth explore the city on foot, because it's very old and nice. Please don't miss the suspending bridge (Ponte colgante), which is the oldest in the world, still working

The hotel is located a 10 minute walk from Casco Viejo, walking uphill, but acceptable. Difficult to park in the area, (if you're not lucky on the streets behing it, the hotel park is an option with a rate of 12,5€/ night).
The rooms are huge and pleasant. Staff is nice, efficient and helpful. Common areas are pleasant. A great option in Bilbao!

Spent one day in Bilbao - which is not enough. Bilbao was the surprise city on the recent drive from Italy to southern Spain via Bilbao, and Salamanca. It's a beautiful city with much more to see and do than solely the Guggenheim. The population is very friendly, helpful, and a number speak multi-languages. But enough of the city. The hotel, HGB, is nice enough, but a 25 minute walk into the centro. There is public transportation however, including a bus that passes by the hotel and street cars which stop roughly 3/8ths of a mile away; but then you have to walk up a steep hill to get to the hotel. The room was large, well equipped and modern. Bathroom was very nice and modern. The hotel staff we dealt with were excellent. If you want to eat breakfast at the hotel - book it the night before and it is much less money. Public parking is impossible to find by the hotel as the locals seem to abandon their cars for days on end without moving them. Hotel parking is the only way to go. The hotel in reality is more likely a 3+ star. There is no workout facility, or pool, etc. Nevertheless, the Wi-Fi is super, the cost was quite reasonable, and if you walk to centro you see some very neat area of Bilbao. Definitely worth a stay at the HGB. jr

Be prepared for a walk uphill as hotel is situated at the top of the town. Nice view towards the river and the hills. Big spacious lobby and average size rooms. breakfast area very busy and very very noisy as dirty trolleys were being removed. Staff didn't seem too happy either. problem with inadequate airconditioning in room and although we complained about this nothing was done to resolve the situation.Duty manager not available. Lobby was the coolest place.Reception staff for the most part were very polite on check in.

We spent only one night in this hotel during our Spanish road trip but it was a very nice experience.
The hotel is situated close to city center, there is a secure parking below the hotel (12 euro/night) and also outdoor parking around hotel but it may be very hard to find free space. If you prefer garage parking pay attention that you have to turn right onto the pavement near the hotel entrance.
At the check-in we got an offer to upgrade for just 10 euro so we received superior room with maginificent view.
The room itself is very modern and spacious.
Reception's staff is very helpful.
Wi-Fi is quite fast and it's free of charge.

Room Tip: Nice view - superior corner rooms facing the bridge
