“Surprinsingly good”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Forget what you know about mediocre restaurants in hotels, this one is well worth trying out. Excellent food and very friendly and helpful staff. We had the 5 course meal, and enjoyed every course.

“Great hotel resturant”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

We had the traditional set menu. The menu contained 5 courses based on local cousine. Some of the courses were really great, some were just ok by our taste and maybe a bit over priced. The service was excellent, so was the wine recomended by our waitress. The interior has a tradisional jet tasteful design. You get the feeling that this is a high end resturant. We will highly recomend this resturant.

“Sensational!”
Reviewed July 12, 2013 via mobile

Think of every prejudice you have in mind linked to hotel restaurants. You'll forget them instantly if you dine at Aizian. The place is brilliant, there's a decent variety in dishes and they all sound perfect.

We ordered pigeon and monkfish and after the first bite we were both amazed by the sensational taste. The pigeon was cooked in 2 different ways, which gave it various tastes. The monkfish was served with a truffle mousse and injected with a mushroom infusion, absolutely delicious! We also ate a great dessert and drank a wonderful red wine called Solabal, recommended by the waitress.

Besides this the restaurant also offered every guest a free appetiser and after dish. We really enjoyed our diner and the excellent service. The waitress was a bit nervous and shy, but she shouldn't be because she did an amazing job!

“Fantastic food - with freebies”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

Upscale restaurant in the Melia hotel, but get over your ideas about hotel restaurants for a moment, because they don't apply here!
The starters sounded so good that the 4 of us just decided to have 2 starters each for our meal (I had the scallops with artichokes and the crayfish ravioli). They weren't particularly large, but they were well presented, absolutely scrumptious, and supplemented by the excellent house bread (choice of white, corn, or nut/raisin), a cold watermelon and tuna soup, and a dessert of chocolate mousse and sesame wafer - which were all on the house.
Service was very good, the place was elegant, and it was quiet enough that we could talk across the table without shouting. All 4 of us were very impressed with our experience - and with tax and tip, it came to about 30

“Very good restaurant, accompished cooking and friendly service.”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

Very good restaurant indeed; food is excellent. Definitely 1 star quality. Someone said the decor needed updated as it was very '70s - in my opinion it is actually very tastefully decorated (by a cool Spanish interior designer), with the impression given of being in the first class restaurant cabin of a 1940s liner. (The hotel restaurant next door is something else, but from the outside can look as if its part of the same - so don't be put off). Staff are very welcoming, and very knowledgeable about the amazingly good food they are serving. There are 3 menus and an a la carte. I went for the menu tradicional. Reasonably priced - I think around 50 euros - and an excellent half bottle of Roda 1 (rioja reserva) - about 33; but you can drink excellent full bottles of wine for around 20-25 euros eg Toro Almiraz (we are so ripped off in UK).
Crema de bacalao - with a bitter onion flavoured leafy herb was lovely
Jamon and salchicon - good, well presented
Egg poached sobre migas de maiz, and onion and jugo de cipirones - loved it, very tasty, a bit unusual.
Kokotxas - only 2 fish have this part of flesh I was told; very rich,.. Rice with mushroom and parmesan cream. An indulgent, luxurious dish. One which Hannibal Lecter might choose to bring on the plane with him.
Bacalao pil-pil and bizkaina sauce. The sauces are traditional sauces of the region, but were not in my opinion additive, but the dish taken as a whole was pleasant, and the fish was cooked to perfection
Costillar de cerdo iberico encebollado con toques de mostaza : this was a fantastic dish. Pork meat taken from the rib, ribs taken out, baked and grilled I think; juicy, tasty, a real treat.
Tarta de queso azul con helado de membrillo (blue cheese tart and membrillo (jam) ice cream) . Couldn't finish but was a very good combination. As with Etxanobe, Aizian is very good value indeed for the high quality of the cooking, service and environment. Recommend.
