“Nice decor Rude Staff”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

Cafe Iruna looks great, and is worth a visit to view the century old decor. Unfortunately the staff are very unfriendly. The cutlery and glasses are often obviously dirty, and the staff don't seem to care, which is a shame. A lovely cafe ruined by couldn't care less service and indifferent food, with the exception of the fresh pinchos (kebabs) cooked in the bar, which are quite acceptable.

“Very authentic "Spanish" cafe.”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

While not very basque, the tiled advertising in this cafe takes you back to 1920's, 1930's Spain. We had Sunday dinner here and the food was excellent. The breakfast (croissant a la plancha) was quickly served. This place is never empty.

“Nice stop to grab a bite!”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

I was walking around the city, and found this place just by chance!
there was a lot of people around the door, and it looked like a really nice atmosphere, there was live music, and from street you could see trough the window how they make the famous "Pinxo Moruno"
It was very good, very tasty and a litlle bit spicy. I loved it!

“Still a nice place, but be aware about prices!”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

Living now most of the time at Bilbao, obviously I visit cafe Iruna regularly.
However, recently I was heavily disapointed having a Rioja Crianza, quality below average, and being charged € 1,85 for a glass. Even worse: a glass of cheap Lambrusco, which took my wife, for the same price!
I just felt cheated.
However a positive thing: you still get "the best pinchos morunos of the world", as they call them, and most probably it´s correct, at the same price since long. Unfortunately, I don´t like beer...

“Very traditional - but cool!”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

This how you probably imagine a typical spanish cafe/bar back from those 'good ole times' should look like. Totally worth a visit, especially for that awesome 'Pintxo Moruno', freshly prepared over open charcoal fire. THis place is visited by locals and visitors alike and does usually attract an interestubg crowd between 07:00pm and 09:00pm when most people come for a Pintxo or two and a wine or beer
