We chose this hotel and paid extra for a sea view, but there was no balcony. In fact there were no facilities at all. There is no bar, tea-making equipment or drinks of any form on the premises, just 2 small bottle of water in the mini-bar. Very weak WiFi and no Air Conditioning, so it was too hot to sleep in August. No storeroom for luggage - it's pile up behind the receptionist. How did this place get 4 stars?

As an advertised 4 star hotel it was disappointing to find the car park a 15 minute walk away which made check in difficult, and was a public amenity.
The hotel itself may conform to 4 start standard requirement overall, but needs to be dragged into the 21st century.
The room overlooked the Plaza Mayor and was the smallest room we have ever experienced for a designated 4 star Hotel, the distance between the bed end and the wall being no more than 40cm, with a single chair which for a 2 person occupancy was unsatisfactory, but this was as a result of the inadequately sized room, in addition there was no drawer space for clothing, the hand basin was cracked and the drainage partially blocked, there was no non-slip bath mat supplied and the hotel could not supply one, in addition there was no support rail within the shower area.
The restaurant would only accept you if you had a reservation, and the breakfast consisted of cold food only, unless you made your own toast.
Overall an extremely disappointing stay, and would not recommended the hotel to any friends or family.

Room tip: Cannot recommend the hotel, despite the reception staff being friendly and very helpful

I picked this hotel because of its location near the beach and old city. It was perfect in that respect. The hotel is older, but it has been restored to reflect an unusual beauty and quaintness that was loved by every one in our group. We had two rooms, both with beach views, one with views of the plaza mayor. One even had a beach view from the bathroom. The windows have lace curtains and wood shutters and heavy curtains to cut the noise and light. Rooms are smaller reflecting the time when they were built. The floors are polished wood in the rooms and marble in the lobby. There is a great deal beautiful finished wood craftsmanship around the hotel. The rooms have AC, flat screens, and good WiFi. Sylvia was at the front desk when we arrived and she was extremely welcoming and pleasant! As I said, I picked this hotel because of its location. None of the ads on the various websites captured just how cute and cool this hotel is. I was prepared to stay in a bland hotel, but this was an excellent surprise! The cider bar next door, La Galana, has amazing local food and drink. Very special!
Because of the older nature of this hotel, it might be a challenge for those with disabilities.

We stayed here for a long weekend so that we could explore Gijon. My husband is in a wheelchair and so we requested an accessible room. The room we got (501) was big & was definitely trying to be an accessible room. Lucky for us, my husband has some mobility so he could manage to get around the room and the bathroom but if you are totally wheelchair reliant you'll struggle.
The room itself was big and had a great view - to the left the sea, to the right the marina and the square in front. This was fine except it was very noisy throughout the night.
The room was perfect;y adequate for what we needed, although the bathroom had a strange smell to it and the showers leaked water all over the floor.
The car park was a bit of a trek with a wheelchair and had no lift so I was forced to push my husband up the very steep exit ramp.
