compact modern dining area with smarter restaurant upstairs. Excellet menu with European and local cuising. Charming efficient service. Good wine list at reasonable prices (20 Euro for very passable local reds). Smart well healed local clientelle.

First of all, I'm very surprised looking at some low rated reviews. But when you look deeper you see there is a problem with that. Saying that Zaragoza has more expensive tapas and food than Madrid may be truth but, surely, quality is way over it also.
Casa Lac is a completely new proposal in the oldest restaurant in Spain (1825). Sited in a charmful ambience, ressembling the XIX century, it is true that in the basement, things are not so beautiful. That's because it's a new dining room. So, if you are going to have dinner here, try to visit the first floor or the rez de chausseé.
The proposal is food from Navarra, with a special highlight in vegetables, which are the star in the menu, without any doubt. Excellent quality products and beautifully cooked. The meat courses are good, but not as much as the firsts. I would recommend lamb, extremely tasty.
It's true it's a bit expensive and the maitre speaks too much, and recommends TOO much also. And that annoys me very much, specially if he recommends things without saying the price (very spanish)
Casa Lac is a great restaurant option in a city with many tapas bars, but very scant good classical restaurants and with some variety of food in a town with SO MUCH MEAT in the menus.
