Although the building is historic, first built in 1903, it has been completely renovated over the past few years so that rooms and services are all 21st century. The location is very good, right in old town, behind the Pilar Plaza, but in an area where it isn't so noisy (and Zaragoza can get noisy at night!). There seems to be a lot of bachelor and bachelorette parties taking place in Zaragoza, and I wouldn't want to be in a hotel where they are staying. There were none at this hotel, fortunately.

We recently stayed one night at the Catalonia El Pilar and regret only that we could not stay for longer. Conveniently located in the heart of the oldest part of Zaragoza, this very modern hotel was very pleasant and welcoming. The desk staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful with restaurant recommendations and other helpful information. The price was very reasonable for the room and the breakfast (only 8 Euro) was the most extensive we have seen in all of Spain.
We arrived in Zaragoza on Good Friday which was a day of extensive semana santa processions. Much to our good fortune, the balcony of our hotel room overlooked the processions, giving us a unique aerial view of the impressive and inspiring proceedings. I would like to return to Zaragoza and definitely will stay at the Catalonia El Pilar.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room overlooking the square.

Stayed here for one night recently and was very impressed. Location is excellent, right in the heart of the old town. It is easy to get to from the railway station - take bus 34 outside the station and get off at Mercado Central from where it is only a short walk to the hotel. The hotel is in easy walking distance to the main sights, and there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby. Room was spacious, staff were very helpful, breakfast was very good. A very enjoyable stay!

The hotel is in the heart of old Zaragoza. Well appointed modern rooms in an older heritage building. Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is well located between the main historical sites and the more modern shopping areas. The hotel served good food and the breakfast spread was great. Very competitively priced. Would strongly recommend.

Stayed for two nights in work, found the hotel very good with a great location, right in the midle of the comercial city center.
The rooms are nice, with free wifi, Good breakfast
However be advised if you travel by car you should add 20eur per day for car park on adjacent parkings.
If in Zaragoza I will stay again at El Pilar

We only spent an over night here but would have stayed longer had our plans been different. The hotel is in a restored historical building near the central attraction in Zaragoza, the Pilar. It's also right down the street from the central market. Parking is in the public parking near the market. I wish there had been a place to pull up in front of the hotel in which to drop off people and luggage, but the nature of the area doesn't allow that. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Check in and check out was a breeze. The hotel restaurant has a wonderful breakfast spread for a very reasonable price. The hotel itself, on the inside, was modern and very well maintained. Temperature was comfortable, even though it was very cold outside. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in Zaragoza.
