“Maybe better with a guided tour”

Palacio de la Aljaferia
Ranked #4 of 164 things to do in Zaragoza
Certificate of Excellence

Impressive from the outside but disappointing inside except for the moorish courtyards and the ceilings. The history of the castle is very complicated and I had a feeling that even the historians had difficulties attributing who did what.
Even so the castle is open until 8:00pm , the guided tour stops at 6:00 ( in English ) special entry of 2 euros for seniors.

The Aljaferia Palace is both an historic monument and the seat of the regional government, so access is limited in some areas depending on when the representatives are sitting. Also the Palace has been modified to allow for modern day governmental needs.

However, despite these changes, it remains an impressive fortress and gives a good indication of what the original palace must have been like.

There are wonderful Arabic touches throughout the Palace, especially the section fronting the elegant courtyard with its delicate columns and detailing, and pavilions with lacy carvings featuring Moorish designs.

The royal apartments have intricately carved and painted ceilings and in spite of being bare of furniture, they are beautiful to wander through.

Go here if you can't get to the south of Spain to see some great examples of Moorish architecture.

okay, that's a stretch, but this is an important moorish palace that is well worth seeing. It's expensive, but there are some days when you can visit for free.

This palace is Moorish.and as such is beautiful and has an interesting history. The atmosphere inside is tranquil, despite sharing the space with many other tourists. Great bathroom facilities. Highly recommend a guide, really helps with the details of history, architecture and such. Isabel and Ferdinand spent time here, as well as Christopher Columbus .....really a great place to visit

Guided tours can be booked at Zuda Tower. No disappointment at all! Very professional guides for two hours. It's 6€ x pax and worth it
