“Very nice hotel”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

This hotel is in a very nice neighborhood of Sevilla. It is pretty convenient to get to the city center by bus, and cab rides weren't too expensive. We stayed here for two nights. The design of the hotel is really interesting and different. It is clean and modern. Our room was very nice and comfortable with a great patio. We were in Sevilla during some really miserable, cold weather, so we didn't get to use the wonderful patios as much as we would have liked, and definitely could not borrow a bike- but I love that they have the option. I booked this hotel because of all the positive reviews about the service. The staff were very nice, but they didn't speak English. Our Spanish is pretty good: my husband was a Spanish minor and he speaks Spanish at his job, and I studied abroad in a Spanish-speaking country, but we did have some communication difficulties with the staff- probably because of accent/dialectic differences. I am guessing these were not the usual employees, due to us traveling in the off-season. They were helpful when we asked, but did not provide us with any useful insights or suggestions or go above and beyond- only called cabs or answered basic questions. When we asked where to eat dinner, they gave us a list and would not say their favorite. Also, breakfast was too minimal- just bread and jams with coffee and (yummy, fresh-squeezed!) OJ. We don't really eat much bread, so we didn't even bother with breakfast the second day. A final note- I regret paying for parking- street parking in front of the hotel is abundant and the neighborhood seems very safe, while the paid parking is a couple blocks away in a garage.

Thank you Stephanie for your comments.
I am sorry that we didn´t provide you with the attention that we normally are very proud of.
But we appreciate your observations as we are always learning and trying to improve our service.
The opinion of our guests is not only important in this sense but also to keep an awareness of the times in which we didn´t accomplished one of our main our main objectives: to provide careful service.
Regarding breakfast, we offer a very meticulously chosen andalusian (continental) breakfast.
I am sorry that you didn´t enjoy our breads which are artisan made and 100% organic. The same about the exquisite Basilippo olive oils, the jams, the tomato puree, the coffee and orange juice. At Holos we understand breakfast as part of the travelling experience and for this reason we offer the best products of our region and the fashion in which andalusians have breakfast.
But, in any case, thank you again for sharing your experience with us.

Best regards,
Carmen

Only a few minutes by bus, you will find the Heliopolis aera in the south of Sevilla. A two-minute walk from the busstop leads to the Calle Uruguay, were you will find a very nice hotel. Away from the noise in the bustling centre of Sevilla, you will enjoy the sound of birds and the very personal approach of Carmen, the owner. The new and very nice decorated rooms are comfortable. The breakfast is very special and tastefull. Carmen will provide a lot of usefull information and share some secrets with you. In this hotel you will feel "at home", with such a warm and friendly staff.

This unique boutique hotel was a great experience. The owner, Carmen, and her staff were pleasant, helpful and efficient, and the service was unparalleled. Each morning coffee was delivered to our room before we went down to the glass-walled, pleasant breakfast room which looked out to courtyard with its sculptured metal gazebo and orange trees. At breakfast we were introduced to a Spanish specialty originating in Seville - freshly blended tomatoes on olive oil-drenched, toasted bread slices - delicious, accompanied by freshly squeezed orange juice, coffee and fruit spreads. Carmen took time each day to direct us on how to get to our destination and had great suggestions for sights to see, places to go and the best bars/restaurants to visit. With her help we were able to see outstanding flamenco dancing at the Cultural Center and have tapas at the Casa Moreno in the back room of a delicatessen buried in the back streets of the old part of the city. It was a wonderful way to experience the flavor of the local community. Carmen always gave us great directions for the best way to get in and out of the city. It was her suggestion that we take the scenic route east from Seville which took us to an unforgettable experience in Ronda. Our 3rd floor room was spacious and comfortable with access to the rooftop patio with great views of the surrounding neighborhood. Each day when we returned the bed was turned down and an origami and quote for the day was on the pillow. Getting our heavy bags to the 3rd floor was a minor challenge in comparison to the outstanding service and ambiance of this hotel. Thanks, Carmen, for helping to make our visit to Seville so memorable. We highly recommend this hotel.

A very comfortable and enjoyable stay was made all the more enjoyable by the wonderful advice we got before heading out each morning from the owner of the hotel Carmen. Appearing after breakfast Carmen spent ten minutes with us each morning explaining the various areas of the city, the attractions, the best bars and places to eat. This added to our trip hugely and while Seville itself is simply stunning, the experience we enjoyed following Carmen's advice made this trip very special. I would recommend this hotel alone for its clean and comfortable feel however the service and time spend ensuring we made the most of our time in Seville put this hotel in a very special bracket. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. It is always a pleasure to see how our guests appreciate the time we stay with you. When you don't have much time to visit a city, you need to have as much information as possible to avoid the waste of time, this is why I love to sit with you and understand a little bit what are your main interests.

As I told you when you were in Seville, please do not hesitate to contact me if you return to Spain should you need any kind of help or advice.

Looking forward to seeing you in the future.

I sometimes feel that TripAdviser becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when it comes to recommending restaurants, but works really well with hotels. Hotel Holos is one such gem.

We stayed in room 7, in the pent of the hotel; it is architecturally interesting, quiet, and clean plus there is a small terrace off the landing to catch some sun. We were also able to enjoy cold lemonade that had resulted from a tree being recently cut-down. Carmen also got us some local Olive oils, to take home.

We generally agree with the points already identified in other reviews, but a few points that we will add is that if you have a car, that you value, then parking in the allocated garage space 300m away is well worth the additional €15 per night. It offers a high level of security and avoids your car being used for bump parking. The walk (4.5km) from the hotel into Seville centre is superb, if the weather is OK. Walking into Maria Lucia Park where the 1929 exhibition was based is a real joy and seeing the Plaza de Espana (for free) one of the best things in the city. We found the No 3 bus from Puerta de Jerez back to the Stadium, very convenient to use. There are restaurants near to the hotel, so you do not have to go back into the city-centre at night.

A minor point of criticism is that Carmen is not taking notice of these reviews. We booked directly with the hotel and again, were not offered the chance to pay in Euros. If the price is quoted in Euros, then it is reasonable to expect to pay in Euros.

Carmen is extremely knowledgeable but offering just too-much information, all at once, takes up time and inevitably can become just a confused blur. “Can I help you with eating out, or sightseeing information?” would perhaps be an appropriate starting point.

That said I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel and will be doing so to friends.

Dear John,

It was a great pleasure to have you and your wife at our Hotel last week. I hope that your way back was good as the forecast for the weather was rain and snow. I would like to thank you for writing your comments as this could be of much help for other guests. Please note that It is me, Carmen, the one who always answers and reads all the comments because I want to know myself all your concerns in order to improve and solve it. About credit card, it is very important to specify if you want to pay in euros or in your local currency when you do your "non refundable" reservation as, in this case, 100% of your booking would be charged and the bank always do it that way unless you specify it. If the reservation is refundable, there would be no problem as you will pay directly at the Hotel and you are going to be asked about it.
About giving too much information all at once, may be you are right, and this is why I always give you a map marked with all the explanations and a paper with all restaurants / tapas bars etc... I recommend. This way you could remember all the explanations I made.

Thank you again for choosing Hotel Holos for your staying in Seville and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

Best regards

Carmen

We stayed in room 5 which was spacious. The twin beds pushed together for a double which is common in Spain were comfortable and the bed linen was of a good standard. The bathroom was large and we had a very powerful shower. The room felt bright even though only one glass door to let the light in. I was not keen on the lighting in the room fluorescent lighting gave it a clinical feel. As per previous reviews breakfast is ok very simple. Fresh orange is very nice.
Just some points to consider if booking through bookings.com. You pay at time of booking. Which is fine if going in the next few weeks but for me I am already planning my summer holiday accommodation and paying now would be a big no . You pay in your own currency as the exchange rate is done by the bank the hotel uses not your credit card. Therefore you do not get as good exchange rate, particularly if you are using a credit card preferable for using abroad. Overall good.

Dear Emma,

Thank you very much for your comments, it is a fantastic way to understand your concerns and gives us the opportunity to explain certain things that are important for both you and ourselves. The reason why we charged you 100% of your booking was because you chose a non refundable rate which meant that 100% would be charged upon reservation and did not admit changes nor cancellations (it is clearly stated in Booking.com terms of payment). This is a formula which implies a reduction in price but also have special terms of payment and have certain risks as not being possible to cancel nor charge your reservation. I would recommend everybody to reed carefully everything before making your reservation. On the other hand, if you want to pay in euros instead of paying in your own currency, you have to specify it otherwise the bank will charge you in your currency.

Thank you again for your comments and please do not hesitate to contact us should you want any kind of help or recommendations if you return to Spain.

Looking forward to seeing you in the future.

Carmen

I stayed for two nights while on a business trip on 13-14th February. The hotel is located in a nice residential area with streets lined with orange trees. I stayed in room 1, on the ground floor, which was spacious, but did not really have an outlook as the windows were screened off from the patio and street. So it felt a little "closed in". Price of room 89 euros incl. breakfast, which is ok, but not outstanding value for money I guess. Breakfast was in a modern glass annex overlooking a rocky patio which had a bit of a zen feeling to it. Orange juice, bread and tomatoes or jam, and a cup of coffee. OK, but not overdone on the choice.

Room Tip: Ground floor room (no. 1) was a bit "boxed in"

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your comments, it is always good to know what our clients think about our Hotel and helps us to improve. About room number 1, the windows are screened off in order to have light but not to be seen as it has big windows which have views to the entrance, nevertheless you can open the windows if you want to see the terrace. On the other hand, it is important to note that we must have a room in the ground floor for people who have any limit to use the stairs (remember that we don't have an elevator as the building is protected and we were not allowed to do it). This room is assigned to those who ask directly for it (for handicapped, for those who required 2 beds and also because it is bigger than other rooms like 3 or 4). It is also assigned to the last one making the reservation if the rest of the Hotel is fully booked. Anyway, the Hotel is small and in a quiet neigborhood so even if it is in the ground floor, it is quiet and calm. It is not the lighter one but I think it has more light than the media in other Hotels.

Thank you again for your comments and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

Best regards

Carmen
