“Helpful Advice”
Reviewed March 1, 2013

A very comfortable and enjoyable stay was made all the more enjoyable by the wonderful advice we got before heading out each morning from the owner of the hotel Carmen. Appearing after breakfast Carmen spent ten minutes with us each morning explaining the various areas of the city, the attractions, the best bars and places to eat. This added to our trip hugely and while Seville itself is simply stunning, the experience we enjoyed following Carmen's advice made this trip very special. I would recommend this hotel alone for its clean and comfortable feel however the service and time spend ensuring we made the most of our time in Seville put this hotel in a very special bracket. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. It is always a pleasure to see how our guests appreciate the time we stay with you. When you don't have much time to visit a city, you need to have as much information as possible to avoid the waste of time, this is why I love to sit with you and understand a little bit what are your main interests.

As I told you when you were in Seville, please do not hesitate to contact me if you return to Spain should you need any kind of help or advice.

Looking forward to seeing you in the future.

I sometimes feel that TripAdviser becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy when it comes to recommending restaurants, but works really well with hotels. Hotel Holos is one such gem.

We stayed in room 7, in the pent of the hotel; it is architecturally interesting, quiet, and clean plus there is a small terrace off the landing to catch some sun. We were also able to enjoy cold lemonade that had resulted from a tree being recently cut-down. Carmen also got us some local Olive oils, to take home.

We generally agree with the points already identified in other reviews, but a few points that we will add is that if you have a car, that you value, then parking in the allocated garage space 300m away is well worth the additional €15 per night. It offers a high level of security and avoids your car being used for bump parking. The walk (4.5km) from the hotel into Seville centre is superb, if the weather is OK. Walking into Maria Lucia Park where the 1929 exhibition was based is a real joy and seeing the Plaza de Espana (for free) one of the best things in the city. We found the No 3 bus from Puerta de Jerez back to the Stadium, very convenient to use. There are restaurants near to the hotel, so you do not have to go back into the city-centre at night.

A minor point of criticism is that Carmen is not taking notice of these reviews. We booked directly with the hotel and again, were not offered the chance to pay in Euros. If the price is quoted in Euros, then it is reasonable to expect to pay in Euros.

Carmen is extremely knowledgeable but offering just too-much information, all at once, takes up time and inevitably can become just a confused blur. “Can I help you with eating out, or sightseeing information?” would perhaps be an appropriate starting point.

That said I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel and will be doing so to friends.

Dear John,

It was a great pleasure to have you and your wife at our Hotel last week. I hope that your way back was good as the forecast for the weather was rain and snow. I would like to thank you for writing your comments as this could be of much help for other guests. Please note that It is me, Carmen, the one who always answers and reads all the comments because I want to know myself all your concerns in order to improve and solve it. About credit card, it is very important to specify if you want to pay in euros or in your local currency when you do your "non refundable" reservation as, in this case, 100% of your booking would be charged and the bank always do it that way unless you specify it. If the reservation is refundable, there would be no problem as you will pay directly at the Hotel and you are going to be asked about it.
About giving too much information all at once, may be you are right, and this is why I always give you a map marked with all the explanations and a paper with all restaurants / tapas bars etc... I recommend. This way you could remember all the explanations I made.

Thank you again for choosing Hotel Holos for your staying in Seville and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

Best regards

Carmen

We stayed in room 5 which was spacious. The twin beds pushed together for a double which is common in Spain were comfortable and the bed linen was of a good standard. The bathroom was large and we had a very powerful shower. The room felt bright even though only one glass door to let the light in. I was not keen on the lighting in the room fluorescent lighting gave it a clinical feel. As per previous reviews breakfast is ok very simple. Fresh orange is very nice.
Just some points to consider if booking through bookings.com. You pay at time of booking. Which is fine if going in the next few weeks but for me I am already planning my summer holiday accommodation and paying now would be a big no . You pay in your own currency as the exchange rate is done by the bank the hotel uses not your credit card. Therefore you do not get as good exchange rate, particularly if you are using a credit card preferable for using abroad. Overall good.

Dear Emma,

Thank you very much for your comments, it is a fantastic way to understand your concerns and gives us the opportunity to explain certain things that are important for both you and ourselves. The reason why we charged you 100% of your booking was because you chose a non refundable rate which meant that 100% would be charged upon reservation and did not admit changes nor cancellations (it is clearly stated in Booking.com terms of payment). This is a formula which implies a reduction in price but also have special terms of payment and have certain risks as not being possible to cancel nor charge your reservation. I would recommend everybody to reed carefully everything before making your reservation. On the other hand, if you want to pay in euros instead of paying in your own currency, you have to specify it otherwise the bank will charge you in your currency.

Thank you again for your comments and please do not hesitate to contact us should you want any kind of help or recommendations if you return to Spain.

Looking forward to seeing you in the future.

Regards

Carmen

I stayed for two nights while on a business trip on 13-14th February. The hotel is located in a nice residential area with streets lined with orange trees. I stayed in room 1, on the ground floor, which was spacious, but did not really have an outlook as the windows were screened off from the patio and street. So it felt a little "closed in". Price of room 89 euros incl. breakfast, which is ok, but not outstanding value for money I guess. Breakfast was in a modern glass annex overlooking a rocky patio which had a bit of a zen feeling to it. Orange juice, bread and tomatoes or jam, and a cup of coffee. OK, but not overdone on the choice.

Room Tip: Ground floor room (no. 1) was a bit "boxed in"

Dear Paul,

Thank you for your comments, it is always good to know what our clients think about our Hotel and helps us to improve. About room number 1, the windows are screened off in order to have light but not to be seen as it has big windows which have views to the entrance, nevertheless you can open the windows if you want to see the terrace. On the other hand, it is important to note that we must have a room in the ground floor for people who have any limit to use the stairs (remember that we don't have an elevator as the building is protected and we were not allowed to do it). This room is assigned to those who ask directly for it (for handicapped, for those who required 2 beds and also because it is bigger than other rooms like 3 or 4). It is also assigned to the last one making the reservation if the rest of the Hotel is fully booked. Anyway, the Hotel is small and in a quiet neigborhood so even if it is in the ground floor, it is quiet and calm. It is not the lighter one but I think it has more light than the media in other Hotels.

Thank you again for your comments and I look forward to seeing you in the future.

Best regards

Carmen

I choose this hotel due to the reviews I read on TA. I was not disappointed at all in fact if anything is surpassed my expectations. We stayed for 3 nights last weekend and it was a perfect base for exploring Seville. The rooms were spotlessly clean and the beds very comfortable. Its quiet location out of the city centre meant for a peaceful nights sleep and a lie in if required. breakfast was simply but sufficient - I particularly enjoyed the traditional Andalusian bread with olive oil and freshly blended tomatoes. Carmen the hotel owner was so very helpful pointing out places to visit which we would never have gone to. Trips to the town centre were simply 5 minutes by bus - number 34 or 3 fare €1.30 single - and a taxi back late at night no more than €10 with tip. I thoroughly recommend this hotel for those who want to add a very personal touch to their visit to Seville

Room Tip: If you want views over the local neighbourhood from the roof terrace choose room 6 or 7

The hotel has an experience of its own. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, wooden decorations made the rooms more homely and cozy. The service from the staff is amazing especially from the owner Carmen (very friendly). The location of the hotel is not central however having walks or a bus ride made the whole experience much more unique allowing us to explore other non-touristic areas.

Thank you very much for your opinion. I do agree with you in saying that the fact of not being central allows you to discover other interesting areas in Seville. Heliopolis, our neigbourhood, was built for the 1929 Iberoamerican exhibition as small Hotels. Now a days is one of the most beautiful residential areas in Seville. In the way to the center, you will also see the different Pavilions: Guatemala, México, Colombia etc... all Avenida de la Palmera / Paseo de las Delicias finishing with Parque de Maria Luisa where you can see Plaza de España, which was de Spanish Pavilion in the 1929 exhibition. There are a lot of turists who come to Seville without seeing this avenue which is really amazing.

We hope to see you in the future. Have a wonderful 2013!

I typically comment wholly on the hotel, but I think it is more appropriate to focus on Carmen, the owner. My girlfriend and I stayed at hotel holos in June. The experience was authentic and lovely, and Carmen's advice and guidance allowed us to have the most wonderful experience you can possibly have in a foreign city. She outlined the best, non-tourist trap restaurants, sites, and experiences. She basically mapped out the city for us and even recommend specific dishes to try at restaurants. Imagine having an amazingly cool Aunt living in Sevilla that welcomes you into her home! Look - if you want luxury and 5 stars, you spend nearly 10x's and go to Hotel Alfonso. If you want a clean, cool, and authentic space with a staff that truly cares and makes sure you have the best experience, go here. Oh and make sure you borrow their bikes and bike around Sevilla - perfect bike paths, much more efficient time wise, totally safe, and fun!

Thank you very much for your comments. It is great to see that all the efforts we make to help our guests, are useful and welcome. I do agree with you that biking in Seville is the best choice to move. At this moment we have all the bikes being repaired to start the sunny season with all the bikes working properly. Nevertheless there is also a public service which is cheap and easy to be used while we don't have the bikes at the Hotel.
We look forward to seeing you again in Seville, and please do not hesitate to contact me should you need any kind of help when returning to Spain.
