“Historical but Small”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

The El Rey is considered by many to be one of the oldest and most well preserved hotels in Seville. If you are into that sort of thing, than you will probably enjoy your stay here. My wife loved it. As for me, comfort is a priority and the El Rey had small rooms with tight spaces. The El Rey is very close to the main tourist attractions of Seville, including the famous Seville Cathedral, which houses the tomb of Columbus as well as 80% of the tourist attractions of Seville. This hotel is very clean, but the rates can be a bit steep, like most of the hotels in this area.

Room Tip: Ask for one of their larger rooms that is not facing the street, noise can be a factor, as well.

We stayed at El Rey Moro for 3 nights in November and were really pleased with our pick. The location is excellent, right in the centre of Santa Cruz and close to all the sites and places to eat.
We struggled a bit to find the place, although there are directions on the website we turned to Google maps, however, to try to explain... Get off the airport bus at the last stop and walk in the direction the bus is pointing to the roundabout, turn right, walk for a couple of hundred metres, then cross over the road and head into the park and follow the directions from there.
We thought the room was a good size, decent sized bathroom, great free water, internet access and it was really peaceful. We would recommend Seville and would definetely recommend this hotel.

Very helpful desk English-speaking staff. Great location for visiting the main sites in the city. Because it is in the old district, taxis/cars can't drive to it, but it is not far from a drop-off point.
The rooms are small, but comfortable. Unlike some European hotels, there were washcloths. The courtyard is lovely.

I stayed here with my wife and my mother, as part of a trip to southern Spain. The location, in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, is unbeatable. This is a very typical Andalusian building, all guestroom corridors overlook an interior courtyard. It is a small hotel, with very friendly staff. We purchased at the front desk the tickets for a Flamenco show (Tablao Los Gallos), which was recommended by them, was very good and is located very close to El Rey Moro. Each room has a different decor, beds were comfortable. Most major attractions of Seville are within walking distance from the hotel. Breakfast was very basic. I could recommend this hotel for travelers looking for a typical Andalusian property, with very good bars and restaurants within close proximity.

I arrived at this hotel in desperate need of sleep after an overnight flight from Atlanta-Madrid, then train from Madrid-Seville. The sound of trickling water and smell of fresh greenery coming from the courtyard was exactly what I needed after hours of traveling.
Be prepared...the double room is small (standard Marriott Courtyard room is about 3 times bigger). If you walk 4 steps across the room from the entrance door you arrive at the bathroom door. Although small, the room is furnished Ikea-style with essentials - bed, desk, lamp, nightstand, closet. The bed comes with 8 fluffy pillows (4 for sleeping, 4 decorative) and a tangerine-colored throw blanket that is perfect for napping. You can sit up to read your guidebook against the cushioned faux-leather headboard. Next to the bed is a window that faces the courtyard...draw the blackout curtain to sleep off your jet lag. The bathroom is small but beautifully decorated and very clean with wall-to-ceiling tangerine-colored tile. There is plenty of hot water and water pressure is strong. Toiletries are provided (shampoo, conditioner, lotion) but no tissues so if you want Kleenex bring your own. Towels are big and absorbent. One note of caution - the walls are extremely thin so bring earplugs if you are sensitive to noise.
The staff is courteous and eager to help in any way. A plus for this hotel is that they have bikes for guest use! Another plus is their restaurant...you can simply walk through the courtyard to the restaurant and enjoy delicious tapas and a glass of wine. (I recommend the Iberian ham) They are open until 11:00 pm. Also, a continental buffet breakfast (yogurt, cheese, toast, coffee, juice) is included with your room price.
The hotel is perfectly situated right in the middle of the Barrio de Santa Cruz - a labyrinth of streets no wider than a hallway which open out to little plazas...it is very close to the Alcazar and Cathedral although it might not seem like it when you get lost. Also, the streets in Santa Cruz are too narrow for cars so keep in mind that you will be carrying your own luggage to and from the hotel to where a taxi/car can pick you up (at the neighborhood's edge).

Room Tip: Room 10 is right above the lobby door, which you can hear opening and closing.

We stayed in this hotel after reading reviews from Tripadvisor, and was not disappointed. The room was clean, beautifully decorated and decent size. The breakfast was ok, and yes, have to agree with one reviewer that there was only one person doing everything. we also ordered from the restaurant downstairs and they were accommodating in bringing the food upstairs to us.

Location wise, it's right in the centre of everything, and the cathedral is only 5 mins walk away.
We would definitely stay here again!

Rooms are very clean, well decorated but very tiny. It gets cramped with 2 people + luggage.
Location is perfect in the historic centre, but be aware that cars are not allowed, so you have to walk about 200m. Breakfast was good, but only one person had to make expressos, eggs, refill the buffet, clean tables and wash dishes. Quite difficult job. They should get an assistant for her!!! An OK stay. Next time, would stay in another place.
