“Exellent but overpriced”
Reviewed October 3, 2010

This B&B is a beautiful and well maintained retreat that is quite relaxing and affords an intimate option for Sevilla (once you manage to find it in the maze of narrow, cobblestone streets). Our junior suite was roomy, but I would caution anyone from taking one of the other rooms as they seemed quite small.
But, having stayed at El Palace in Barcelona before - and Hotel Palace in Madrid after - our stay in Sevilla, it becomes abundantly clear that the pricing needs to be adjusted as these other hotels provided extraordinary 5-star service and amenities at lower cost. There were none of the small extras at Corrado that would have justified the high pricing. No flowers or fruit in the room. While ice was delivered our first night, we had to ask for it on the others. The included continental breakfast includes nothing but rolls, croissants and coffee/tea/juice. No fruit, yogurt, bran, cheese, cereal, etc.

We enjoyed our stay at this gorgeous boutique "hotel": it's in a brilliant location in the centre of Seville's old town. Our room (Room 2) was nice: it was spotlessly clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished, and the huge bathroom had lovely orange-blossom scented toiletries. Breakfast was a continental service, which you can eat inside or on the terrace.

We had a lovely welcome when we arrived, and throughout our stay the staff were really friendly and helpful, recommending places to go and restaurants to try.

However, Corral del Rey is more B&B than hotel as the bar and restaurant were closed a while ago, so there's nowhere to sit to have (or buy) a drink other than using the minibar in your room.

The hotel was generally quiet but there was a raucous party in the building next door on one afternoon which rendered the roof terrace unusable for those like us who didn't want to listen to thudding bass notes, or sit surrounded in cigarette smoke, and we were obliged to retreat to our room for peace and smoke-free air. Fortunately our room was lovely and provided a pleasant sanctuary from the outside noise.

We enjoyed our stay in Seville, and Corral del Rey was a great base, but we feel the owners need to come clean and update their advertising of the "hotel" to remove reference to the bar, and restaurant (these were advertised on their website and in the booking agent's brochure when we booked our stay) - which don't exist - and adjust their prices accordingly. The other point that needs clarification is their policy on allowing children to stay - our booking agent stated that children under 12 were not permitted but young children were staying in the hotel, which inevitably affects the ambience and tranquillity of the place.

For a stay in Seville, we recommend: booking the flamenco at Casa de la Memoria; having a drink on the roof terrace at Hotel Dona Maria; exploring the Barrio de Santa Cruz; tapas at the Giralda and Vinora San Telmo; the Alcazar Palace; and shelling out Eu50 for the delightful horse-drawn carriage trip around the parks and city centre.

Ideally located in the old quarter of Seville, about 3 mins walk from the Cathedral, the Corral del Rey is a special boutique hotel in a beautiful old building that has been converted with great care and attention to detail. Lovely art work on the wall. The terrace was perfect for breakfast (which was delicious, with freshly squeezed orange juice). Unfortunately breakfast is the only meal served, but there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The staff were extremely courteous and helpful, and spoke very good English. They were also happy to arrange tickets for various things as well as airport transfers. It more than lived up to our expectations, and if I go back to Seville, I will definitely be staying there.

We spent 2 night (June 2/4 2010) in Corral del Rey (2 stars), this hotel is TOO MUCH OVER PRICE, which is not worth at all!
With only Euro 200 you can get much better hotel near by in Santa Cruz area, with 4 or 5 stars and over 300 years building renew hotel!
This hotel charge Euro 300 but no facilities; fax machine doest work, pull water is dirty, continental breakfast forget about it..., the only nice thing is people are friendly to be honest.
After we leave hotel next day trip to Madrid, my eye get bacterial infection, need to go hospital for emergency, I think it's souvenir from hotel too, because the towel is... go try it!

The quality experience started before we got there. Great help in planning and organizing our trip with excellent advice on restaurants and things to do. The location is superb if not the easiest to get to initially. We were grateful to be driven there, the old quarter is not good for cars! Staff were all exceptionally friendly and coped with our lack of Spanish superbly. The place has a lovely atmosphere and the rooms were spacious with a nice mix of trad and modern with all mod cons to make relaxation and the occasional bit of work that much easier. The tour guide recommended was also exceptional keeping teenagers engrossed with Seville's and Spain's history and teaching us all so much. The recommended Flamenco simply awesome! Breakfasts flexible and tasty. As regular travelers in top quality hotels, the family is used to being a bit spoilt and can be blase. This place and people are simply good for the soul, restoring one's faith a bit in human nature, reminding one what a difference pleasant, honest, quality service with a smile can make. My wife noticed that all the staff seemed to be women, I confess I noticed how attractive they were. We all agreed that it was a wonderful stay and I cannot imagine a better place to be in Seville. I hope we return soon! I had thought I would only be happy these days in large 5 star hotels. I was reminded how the personal touch in a small and friendly place can be so much better. And after all this they tried to undercharge me!!!

This is yet another difficult hotel to review as we loved our stay and there are many positives but some negatives which must be mentioned.

First, on the upside: The people at this small hotel could not have been nicer or more helpful and willingly made reservations for us for at a Flamenco show before our arrival. The location is perfect and the hotel itself is charming. I think its 4 star rating is just about right. The bathroom is quite large with a huge, very good shower. We were on the third floor so the outside areas got quite warm, but the air conditioner inside the room worked perfectly. We like to open our windows and both the bedroom and bathroom had full sized doors that opened. The bed was very comfortable with nice feather pillows.

On the downside, the hotel is difficult to find even with a GPS, which we had. Getting down the streets to the hotel requires nerves of steel and putting the side mirrors in as the streets are so narrow. There is nowhere to stop and unload baggage, so you need to drive about a block away where you can pull off the street. However, we were helped with our bags from this spot and shown where the parking was less than 10 minutes away in an underground lot. It ended up being quite doable.

I would suggest getting the address of the parking lot first, parking, getting a cab from there, loading your baggage and having a cab bring you to the hotel. Or, if you only have two rollers you could walk from the parking lot. By the way, the address for the hotel is number 12, but it’s really in the building marked number 8.

The bedroom area was quite small --- I’m not sure the bed is a full size king. We stored our luggage under the bathroom sink, which actually worked out quite well. Our in-room safe was not working which was a bit inconvenient, but we simply put our valuables in the office safe.

There is a television in the room, but there we no English speaking news stations – not CNN International, BBC, Sky News or Euro News--- and on occasion, just one English-speaking entertainment channel.

The continental breakfast that comes with the room is basic, but with good breads and a pastry. I would have to say the room rates are more than a bit high as they only include the continental breakfast. Taxes and parking are extra which means the room becomes well over $400 Canadian or US a night.

With all this said, we would still recommend this hotel; just know the ups and downs.
