“Hotel basic but OK”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2011

We stayed for 3 nights in November. The room was clean and modernly decorated but really lacked some interest. One night, the noise from the street was quite loud into the early hours. The breakfast was disappointing. Location wise, the hotel is tucked away up an alleyway, but is nice and central for the cathedral and Alcazar palace. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

We booked a superior room at the Alminar. The room was small, dark, dingy with a bad bed, garage sale furniture, and one dingy window. The hotel staff were nice but the hotel was full and they could do nothing when we complained. We stayed at 3 other hotels in Spain on this trip and this was far inferior to the others in every way except price.
Among the quirks that made it feel like a hostel: the outside hallway was unlighted at night until we complained. There were no glasses in the bathroom: you have to go to the lobby to pick them up.

We found the rooms well appointed and comfortable. The staff were friendly and took the initiative during our check-in to tell us the attractions around us and recommended not just a flamenco show in their sister hotel but also one that was nearer and more convenient for us to go to. The room was clean and the staff were unfailingly polite and warm. The coffee and tea facilities downstairs was a very appreciated convenience. Also they had several guide books on Seville on the check-in counter and when I asked to borrow one, I was told, "of course!" The guide book was certainly useful in our exploration of the city, so I advise other travellers to Seville to get one, in case someone else borrows the ones the hotel already has. The only complaint I had was that the room we got (not sure if any of the other rooms had this problem) had a water temperature problem in the bathroom. The water would be warm for a period of about 15 seconds, and then turn boiling hot for 2 seconds, before switching back to normal. We did not complain (because we figured out the timing and made sure to duck out of the water's way when we knew it was gonna start boiling) but I would advise others to let the management know cuz it can get you scalded. We were just too lazy to do anything about it, so we don't blame the hotel.

Spent 4 nights staying at the Alminar Hotel, it is an intimate boutique hotel that has charm but also efficiency as well. The rooms are clean and comfortable, location right next to all the main tourist attraction ... but most importantly the personal service and advice by the staff was the most memorable. On top of all of this, it was great value!

We recently stayed in the new annexe for 3 nights. Our son had the 'single' (room 103) , whillst we had the twin (102). Rooms were clean and fairly appointed. However, the bathroom for room 103 is tiny - made more challenging by a water tank at just above head height by the loo - altthough in fairness I am 6ft 6. The location is great for the cathedral and so on, but it was rather noisy - as traffic & pedestrian noise bounces off all the close by surrounding buidlings. If you close the windows the AC can be used . Overall good value, friendly service - I would go again.

Room Tip: Try and avoid the annexe - it has no lift and is perhaps a little noisy

I chose the Alminar after reading the great reviews and they were right. Easy to reach from the airport by taxi to the end of the street (25 euros) and although we arrived before lunch our two rooms were ready and were both ideal. The single room was a reasonable size with a good bathroom with shower and the double overlooked the side street and again contained all we needed and the modern bathroom had a bath with shower over and a good hairdryer, both rooms were on the second floor. The televisions had a couple of english speaking channels, there was a fridge containing complimentary water, a mini safe, a music centre and excellent air conditioning which we were very grateful for as the weather was superb for the end of October. I took my own travel kettle because I like my early morning cuppa, but there was a machine in reception providing 24 hour complimentary tea, coffee or hot chocolate. All the staff were very helpful and friendly and spoke excellent english and helped with places to visit and restaurants. Breakfast for an additional 6 euros daily was ideal - juice, cereal, yoghurts, cold meats and cheese, fresh fruit, rolls and bread (and a good circular toaster). Although we were on the second floor a domestic in the street in the early hours of the morning could be heard very clearly - only problem was we couldn't understand what was being said !!! The Alminar is in the heart of the city so some night noise must be expected. All in all a fantastic small hotel with everything you could want in a marvelous position close to the wonderful sights of Seville.
Would like to tell all visitors not to miss going to see the Space Metropol Parasol (or "the mushrooms") situated at the Plaza de la Encarnacion. It was only opened earlier this year and is a must - the views of the city are superb. My only regret was that we didn't revisit at night.

Room Tip: Second floor room or premium room on third floor are preferable if you are a light sleeper

Whenever you arrive at a new place, especially a new country, first impressions are key to the total experience. It was my first time to a new country and I was captivated by our hotel. It is perfectly located in the heart of Seville. The rooms were a comfortable size and the beds were great! Our windows opened up to beautiful views of the streets and the cathedral. The staff was wonderful to deal with. They were friendly and very helpful when we were looking for certain attractions, for recommending places to eat, and enjoy the town. They spoke English very well and all had great attitudes, especially when I accidentally spilled my hot chocolate in the elevator. :) I did not have one bad experience my whole stay and I wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere else.
I highly recommend staying at the Alminar Hotel when you go to Seville!
