Readers might note from our recent reviews that we have traveled around Andalucia. One hotel I would like very much to have reviewed positively in Sevilla is Puerta de Sevilla, one of many hotels right in the midst of the major sites in the oldest part of the city (Alcazar, Cathedral) and surrounded by many quality tapas establishments. Lets start with the positive: helpful reception, welcome snack, clean and comfortable room (ours had a second-story window into the covered courtyard/light well, potentially quiet with no street exposure (only our room; most face the street), ample bathroom, heat/ac unit individually controlled, good quality, paperback book exchange. The hotel controls two spaces in the public parking just behind it (access to them versus the slightly more costly public areas requires instructions and a key from the reception; you can park temporarily in the alley just the beyond ramp down to the parking, there is a space marked for hotel unloading). There are plenty of nearby eating opportunities including the hotel’s own restaurant affiliate (free glass of wine as an enticement). No minibar. Four noise issues became obvious: an elevator (lift) with noisy doors and a groaning mechanism with pounding noises which echoed throughout; a stairway and light well open down to the lobby that echoed any conversations from reception upward; hard surfaces in the hallways that also added to the unpleasant noisiness (for which read, you could hear every hallway conversation load and clear, and they yours); and a squeaky bed in a room above. Bring earplugs but they may not be enough: be prepared to sleep when the last guest arrives and wake with the leader next morning. Forget a siesta, and do not accept room 24 or 25 or the third floor equivalents (adjoining the elevator)! As much as we liked some aspects of Puerta, we’d try someplace else next time (unless we learned that the elevator was fixed, the corridors carpeted, and doors to the stairway and courtyard are kept closed); there are many alternatives nearby.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms adjoining the elevator.

If you want to be within easy reach of the bars/restuarants/sites this hotel is fantastic. Staff v friendly & helpful. If noise worries you take ear plugs & ask for a room at the back. A small trade off for location. Breakfast adequate & you can always pay a menial amount for extras. A must is the churros from alongside the hotel but maybe just try the once as sugar overload!!!!

My single room was spotlessly clean and next to the impressive roof terrace. However, as a single woman the presence of only one other room on the floor was a little spooky. Also, the noise of the lft in my singular cell was very intrusive and kept me awake and also woke me up at 6.30 when the cleaner arrived.

The room was well priced and very convenient for all of Sevilla's many charms.

We picked the hotel at random from the Internet and spent 3 nights there (late October). The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly - a special mention must go to Mariano at the desk, who went the extra mile to make our stay there enjoyable. Unfortunately the weather was appalling which made it even more important that the hotel was so welcoming to two "drowned rats", having soaked up everything Seville had to offer in terms of sightseeing, food, wine and, of course, rain! The bus stop, about 200metres from the hotel, made travelling to the more distant attractions very easy. Local bars and restaurants were excellent. Our only very minor quibble was the hotel did not have a restaurant and the breakfast at the hotel's favoured establishment was not good, however there were plenty other cafes which served good (and cheaper) breakfasts.

We arrived in Seville with no accommodation in the beautiful September sunshine. We parked in the nearby underground carpark and set off to look for a hotel. The Puerta Sevilla was the second one we tried - and what a find, just what we wanted. A lovely, spotlessly clean room, with good quality beds, at the front of the hotel overlooking the hustle and bustle of the street below. We were close to everything we wanted to see. The receptionist did us a great deal on the room. We were a little worried that it would be too noisey but no problems at all - might be a different story at the height of summer though. Great little terrace on the roof and great views. Super hotel and perfect for our two night stay.

Room Tip: Room 12 overlooking the main street
