We couldn't be happier with our 7 day stay at the Derby Hotel. Our room was very clean and the maids did a thorough job every day. The location couldn't be better either. Right across the street was the El Corte Ingles market which was like a Macy's Department store with a very nice grocery store in the basement. We were within walking distance from everything we wanted to see: Tower of Gold, Cathedral, Mushroom, Archive of the Indies, Real Alcazar, etc. Also in a great neighborhood for tapas y copas (great tapas bars everywhere!!!) The only thing we were worried about was the website said shower or bath. My son is 6' 5" tall and we definitely wanted a shower. We asked at the desk if our room had a bath or a shower...much confusion in the translation. We were told all rooms had baths. When we got to our room, we were happy to see that all rooms come with a tub/shower. We also liked to go up on the rooftop at night. We had it all to ourselves every time and there is a great view of the city. The rooms were a bit small, with no couch, but we didn't spend much time in our room anyway. Great air conditioning, hair dryer, and bathroom. We took everything out of the minibar and used it as a fridge...worked great. Great price too! We would definitely stay there again!!

Yes it is absolutely average. Reception average, service average, breakfast average, rooms average and price average. But it has the merit of being ideally located in the center of the best shopping streets, facing a charming little park beyond which you enter one of the best shopping centers, the Cortes Ingles. Nothing is far, tapas bars, restaurants, and the historical center in what was once the capital of Spain, only a mile away from the river landing from where Colombo set out to discover the New World. Seville is a beautiful city, where you need not spend much time inside your hotel. Most streets are lined by orange trees bearing at the same time fruits and blossoms, so that a delicious perfume hangs in the air. The air is warm for most of the nights, therefore people like to eat late and outside and it is worth the experience of tasting a sherry from the casket with a portion of that world famous "Jamon" of the black porc, scraped off from its fastener. One can actually follow the sherry bar trail right back to the hotel entrance, which , happily, is never far away if you hang on to your map.Avoid Easter. During what is called the Semana Santa most hotels are fully booked and even if you are a regular guest of the Derby Hotel, the receptionists just shake their head without even looking up, which can be quite annoying .

I would recommed staying at Derby especially because of it's convinient location. PLaza Del Duque is a very vibrany location in the city with everything being a short walk. Our room itseld was fully functional with good air-conditioning and the bathrroms were maintained very neatly. This is located just a 5-6 minute ride by taxi OR a 10-12 minute bus ride from the Santa Justa Train station. There are numerous eating places just a short walk away and even a huge outlet of El Corte Ingles ( departmental store) right across the hotel.
The seville cathedral, the bullring, Plaza Espana and the riverbank are withing 15 minutes of walking distance. and believe me, when in Seville, walking is a great way to discover all the charming locations.

My partner and i revisited the Derby for the 2nd. consecutive year due to it,s excellent location in the centre of Seville, and on this occasion we found that all the staff were much more cheerful and friendly. We were on a travelling holiday, so only stayed in Seville for 3 nights,(June 4th- June 6th. 2012 ) There was a mix up on the type of room that we had pre booked, but this was quickly sorted without fuss, and given a nice room overlooking the square. We did have a a couple of noisy customers in the adjoining room, which made sleeping difficult, but as it was a short stay, decided to overlook it this time. The Hotel is very clean, and the rooms made up to the excellent standard that we expected.Suitcases were carried to our room on arrival, which is not always the norm these days.We only had breakfast at the hotel on one occasion as we found the choice of food limited, but with plenty of cafes in the vicinity, this wasn,t a problem. As long as i am able to change rooms if not entirely satisfied with the one given, then i shall continue to stay at this hotel. If you want good location at a reasonable price then i would recommend this one, but check that you have quiet neighbours

Room Tip: You,ll know after the first night

The theme of this hotel is "The Derby" and don't you know as soon as you walk in. There are an awful lot of paintings of horses about the place. The hotel has also gone for that 1970s kitsch look you will see in Ikea. It has undoubtedly had it since the 1970s, but never mind that, it's fashionable again now and people pay good money for these things.

Our room overlooked the busy square which is very near the centre of Sevilla. So it was very well located to explore the city. The only issue we had with the place was how the cleaners bashed the doors as they hoovered early in the morning. Other than that, the room was big enough and kept clean and the 70s decor had shades of "Are You Being Served" about it, as did the slightly stuffy reception staff. All good though - we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the square so you can enjoy seeing everyone going about their business

The Hotel Derby is a good business class hotel in a convenient location overlooking Plaza del Duque at the north end of the Tetuan pedestrian street. It is a 10 minute walk to the Plaza Nueva in the center of Sevilla, and another 10 minutes to the cathedral.

If arriving by bus from the south (Costa del Sol), take the tram just outside the south bus station to the Plaza Nueva, and the walk from there.

If arriving by train into the Santa Justa station, take the bus (I believe #32) west to Plaza del Duque. The Hotel Derby is directly across from the large Corte Ingles department store.

On my recent stay there I had a non-smoking single room. The room was small but attractive and modernized (good windows, fresh paint, no carpets). It had everything I needed , including a minibar and a HD flat screen TV (no satellite channels).

My room had no particular view (it opened onto a courtyard air shaft with buildings in the distance). Larger front room doubles look out on the plaza. Windows are doubled, so there is no problem with traffic noise.

The climate control (heat during my stay) worked well and was quiet. The bathroom was beautifully tiled and relatively spacious, with a nice large tub for soaking after a hard day of sightseeing.

The front desk staff was friendly. I booked through Expedia and had no problem with my pre-paid reservation. When I had tried to contact the hotel directly, they did not respond to my email but Expedia called them for me to confirm my reservation. I booked my arrival the day after the spring Feria, since the rates during the Feria were high at all Sevilla hotels.

The hotel offers breakfast with an adjacent roof top patio for outdoor dining, but I did not eat in the hotel. Across the plaza in the basement of the Corte Ingles is a supermarket with a good selection of fruit, bread, cheese, wine, and other picnic items.

When in Sevilla, enjoy the immense cathedral (3rd largest in the world), the alcazar (as nice as the Alhambra in my opinion), the old town Juderia area, the Plaza de Espana (from the 1929 world fair), the paseo in the pedestrian zone, and the fine arts museum (a surprise with huge Murillos and fine domed ceilings).

From Sevilla, if going to Ronda, take the bus from the south station. If going to Cordoba, take the local train (very fast and cheap) from Santa Justa station.

I enjoyed the comfort and security of the Derby, and found the location convenient for sightseeing. I would happily stay there again for the reasonable price I paid.

Room Tip: Front rooms have a view of Plaza del Duque. Double windows block noise. BAck rooms are fine too.
