“A short walk from where you want to be”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

A very comfortable hotel with large rooms and a spectacular view of the plaza if you get a good room. The hotel is in the heart of casco viejo and is one of the most convenient locations. We were able to visit the main tourist spots by foot and easily come back for a siesta. I would definitely recommend staying at the hotel especially if you want to practice your spanish since not much english is spoken by the attendants. The hotel seems to be popular with spanish and other european and latin american tourists.

Dear guest:

Thank you very much for your comments and for recommend our hotel.

I am very grateful for your comment about the english of our reception staff, but let me clarify a question: almost all of the staff speaks English and several languages more but there are some staff that are being trained in languages in order to improve our service everyday. Nevertheless they are recepcionists with a large career and professional experience in our Hotel whose main qualities are their friendliness and the guest service.

Best regards and we hope to see you soon!

Last June stayed one night in America Seville with my wife and son (10 yrs). Booked directly on hotel's website a double with extra bed. Double room was a bit tight for an extra bed but nothing to worry as it was just for sleep. Anyway it was comfy, very clean and basic amenities were there. In spite of other comments i didn't find it noisy for a friday. Staff at the front desk are very friendly and useful. Breakfast is quite good with a lots of choices (eggs, bacon, sausages, juices, coffee, milk, tea, jams, cheeses, fruits, cereals, yogurts, etc.).

The location is fantastic! Right in the heart of Seville and within a walking distance to the main spots, restaurants and shopping. Across the street there is a "El Corte Ingles" (huge shopping center) and lots of restaurants and taverns around. Hotel hasn't private parking but has a price agreement (+- 12 €/day) with El Corte Ingles which is 20 mts away. Very convenient in this area!! If your are driving and GPS isn´t updated (as mine ...:)) you may get lost in very narrow streets. TIP: print a map on googlemaps or michelin and avoid those narrow streets ...

Overall: if i return to Seville would consider America Seville again.

Great location but very simple room and bathroom and services. Rooms are clean but with practically no amenities.
Reception is tiny with a single sofa. Restaurants (2) are simple and should be avoided. Breakfast is the simplest I've had - coffee, cereal and toast.
Free internet access available in reception and free wifi.

But good value for money and great location with a number of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops around.

Room is a little small, but the bed is pretty large for a single room. Bathroom is really small though. Location is good. A huge shopping center El Cortes Ingles is right next to the hotel, and the historical sites are within walking distance. Overall pretty good.

I see that other reviewers have mentioned the air con - I had the same issue, but was given a reason... I visited the Hotel America for one week on my own for Semana Santa (April 2012). I was originally given a single room that was absolutely stiflingly hot - air con not working - and overlooked a courtyard (we. the blank wall of a courtyard) with a really noisy extractor fan in it, so opening the window wasn't much of an option. I asked at Reception whether the air con could be fixed and was told that because other guests wanted the heating on, the heating and air con systems could not work simultaneously...! They did offer me another single room, overlooking the street, which was much better, so I was happy. This also let me see many of the processions from my hotel room window, particularly the ones that went by - complete with brass bands - at 3.30am, 4.30am, 6.30am... however, that was the reason I was visiting Seville at that time, so I'm not complaining!
Unlike some of the other reviewers, I found the staff to be helpful and informative. I found them to be professional and helpful and they were able to answer any of the questions I had. Breakfast was fine - not massively inspiring, but ok, particularly if you eat meat etc. I'm vegan, so I always knew that there would be limitations for me... (Gaia vegetarian restaurant is only a ten minute walk away though - hurrah!) Again, the breakfast staff were friendly.
The room itself was fairly small but clean. There was a wooden (laminate) floor, a built in wardrobe with a safe (I didn't use that) and a dressing table/desk with a decent sized TV. My room had an ensuite shower, loo, basin (the first room had a bath with shower attachment). Free wi-fi! There was also a mini-bar, but I didn't use that either.
The location of the hotel is really convenient for the main shopping streets, and is opposite El Corte Ingles. It's walking distance to the Cathedral, Giralda, Real Alcazar etc. The hotel itself is fairly quiet (not so the streets outside!) and most of the people staying when I was there were older couples or families with older children. Not a great deal to do in the hotel itself, but I was there to visit Seville, not stick around in the hotel! I would stay there again for the convenience of the location.

Room Tip: Don't get 216 (single room)!

Ostensibly, there was nothing wrong ... in an historic district, room size ok, clean. Even our room on the front overlooking the plaza was quiet thanks to excellent quadruple glazing. But despite its claim to be air-conditioned it was not working and even in March rooms can be very warm: so sleep was difficult and patchy. Worse was that when we complained, they put on a charade of trying to fix it (visit to room by a 'technician') though it was clear from overheard talk (the receptionist did not know I could understand Spanish) that there was no intention of putting it on. Double bed was small and hard. Didn't try the breakfast, because the restaurant is a very dull room and the hotel is surrounded by cheaper and more interesting options.

Room Tip: Front rooms - the higher, the better - give views of the plaza yet are quiet.

I booked this hotel as it has good views of cathedral from some rooms...

I think the Expedia rate gives you the worst rooms as i got one in first floor facing courtyard. Dark, small and dingy... Air con did not work well.

At arrival receptionist acknowledged my arrival but did not stop reading her papers keeping me waiting... it's like a scene from a bad comedy. I also think it is rather poor that I could see reception manager checking rates and availability of their competitors on booking.com when I was checking in. The only helpful person was a porter. Breakfast average.

Would not stay there again.
