“Great hotel, lovely rooms, excellent value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

I spent dour nights in hotel this hotel in June. It was a pleasant suprize for the reasonable price paid online. Location was great only a short walk from city centre. Lovely area close by with lots friendly bars and food. Staff were friendly and rooms were clean, comfortable and very private. Air conditioning was great in hot sun! Rooftop pool was small but clean and cosy... Refreshing area to relax.. All in all I would recommend for a stay in Seville..

Our room was clean, not big but it was spacious enough to make us feel comfortable. We enjoyed a swimming pool on a roof which is free for guests of the hotel. However the swimming pool is not big we had no problem with that as there weren't many people in at the same time. The terrace of the hotel with live flamenco is very charming the only thing we did not like was restaurant staff as they were ignoring us most of the time and they weren't even busy. No smile. My boyfriend is spanish so they did not even need it to speak english with us. Really a shame as this affected the whole atmosphere of the restaurant terrace. A location was fine as a bus stop is nearby.

We got a good price for this hotel and also took advantage of an internet 5 euros tapas + cava for two offer; The room was spacious, clean and comfy, the windows were onto a corridor which was a little strange but ok for a short stay. The tapas deal was unbelievably good value for money, 4 tapas each and a bottle of cava served in a champagne bucket, yummy and very luxurious. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, we preferred to go out to one of the wonderful typical spanish bars for churros .. Although the location is not that close to the cathedral etc we really enjoyed it as it felt like the 'real ' seville , not full of tourists as it were :) and enjoyed wandering through the streets to get to the centre. We found the staff friendly and helpful and we would go back. Can't comment on the pool as we were out of season for that.

As the other reviews have mentioned the staff, apart from what they call the bell boys (who park the cars in the garage and carry the luggage when they are not parking cars which they are pretty much all the time) are rude and unhelpful. The bellboys seem to be the only ones running around doing any work. Aside from this the hotel is very run down - the courtyard area is little more than a few seats around a badly kept patch of grass and broken concrete. The reception area has a very bad musty smell, not really a deal breaker though as how much time do you spend in reception. The pool area is an unusual layout with some cheap plastic chairs. Reception couldn't find us any towels for the pool and told us we would have to use our rooms ones but she wouldn't replace those for us so we resorted to taking towels from the chambermaids trollery instead. The rooms are oddly situated and look out on to corridors and the courtyard which you would think sounds nice but it means no privacy unless you keep the curtains closed all the time. Its not somewhere I would recommend or stay again. The walk to the town is a fair way (about 30 mins to the cathederal) but that is something we knew and not a complaint it means you get to see other parts of Seville on the way)

Our visit on Hotel San Gil for two days was mostly perfect.
Swimmind pool, room, location of the hotel was good.
There is one thing that was bad and that was the staff of the reception, they we're not nice
every was too much for them, when you ask something they give you hardly an answer.

After reading reviews regarding the staff and service, we were expecting difficulties however overall we found the staff friendly and accommodating but lacking in detail and attentiveness however we didn't find this too much of a problem as the hotel is informal and relaxing - it just depends on your expectations. We did, however, feel that some of the lack of attention to detail was simply down to language barriers as our Spanish was rubbish and the staff's English was not much better although their intentions good.
The hotel itself was very clean and our room (overlooking the courtyard) spacious, clean, cool and comfortable. The atmosphere is one of informality and calmness and we found it extremely relaxing. The terrace and pool, although small, is adequate, always clean and just what is required after a long day in the hot Andalusian sun. It's location is a little out of the way however if you like walking then this is not a problem. We made attempts at walking back along different routes and stumbled across quaint areas and quirky shops which is just what we like when visiting a new place. Maybe because we had just come from an excellent hotel in Barcelona, we found the breakfast a little limited although they have made an effort to provide choice; we just found it inconsistent and not always well cooked. This was surprising as, on the four occasions we ate at the hotel in the evening, the food was of a high standard, in fact I would go as far to say that a couple of the tapas dishes (whiskey prawns and goats cheese with cane sugar) were amongst some of the best food I have ever tasted. We did notice however that, on a particularly busy night, the standard slipped somewhat which was a little disappointing. The flamenco evening at the hotel is also worth booking a table for as it was traditional, discreet and not at all pretentious - the guitarist, singer and dancer all very talented.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel however if it is a formal and very attentive service you are after then it's not for you. If your priorities are cleanliness, a relaxing atmosphere and informality then you could do much worse.

Room Tip: Choose a room overlooking the courtyard.
