“A special Hotel to spend our Anniversary”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

We stayed here for our 5th Anniversary and were welcomed with a lovely bottle of Cava and some chocolates. The room we stayed in was beautiful, with a fabulous balcony and chairs and quiet but effective air con and such a comfortable bed. The hotel is grand and very centrally located. The pool area has plenty of sunbeds to relax in after sightseeing. The staff are friendly, helpful and honest. Overall faultless from our point of view.

Room Tip: Although very hot, it was lovely to have a Balcony to take in the atmosphere

The Alfonso XIII in Seville was built in time for the Ibero-America Exposition & Fair of 1929, together with so many other beautiful buildings in Seville that are now homes to government offices, museums, studios, and embassies. Of course, the crowning glory is the Plaza de Espana. The Alfonso was built in a beautiful setting, gated with gardens and sculpture paths in front and to the sides. It’s built like an 18th century palace, with a courtyard in the middle and the rooms either looking into the courtyard or outside. It’s located right beside the important monuments of Seville – especially the al-important Alcazares and the cathedral with the Giralda tower. The style is neo-classical exterior with a neo-mudejar inside. The tilework in the lobby is breathtaking – so are the Moorish arches separating the various lobby sections. The hallways exude the classy moorish ambience.

Furniture in the bedroom are all very dark wood with ornate or geometrical pattern designs a la mudejar style, which reflects the interior theme throughout the hotel. This includes the work desk, work chair, lamp bases, clothes cabinets guestroom and bedroom door. The room is very high unlike most hotels, allowing for a chandelier to hang from the ceiling above the bed. A carpet covers most of the patterned marble floor. As we’ve seen in top class hotels, there is an antechamber after the front door – the toilet is on one side and then another door that leads to the bedroom area. There’s an additional feeling of security when you have two doors between you and the rest of the hotel.

The bathroom is uniquely done in copper-ceramic tiles (or perhaps ceramic that was a good imitation of copper. Even the bathroom door jamb and the mirror frame was done in this copper tile style. The minor issues I found were: the single wash basin – not a good idea when you’re a couple; the mirror that wasn’t anti-fog; and the wash basin fixtures that require you to mix hot and cold rather than a single central control handle.

There are certainly enough power outlets to take care of nearly a dozen devices all at the same time, an Alfonso XIII feature that was much appreciated. The windows are high and aside from drapes have a metal drop-down shutter that is remotely controlled.

The courtyard breakfast setting is unbelievable – the courtyard is magical in the morning and they allow the cool ac air of the hotel to waft into the open courtyard. So despite the 37 C temperature outside, it felt like 22-25 C in the courtyard. Buffet food choice is quite acceptable – though fresh eggs aren’t available, you do have scrambled eggs. Waiters are quick to remove plates and friendly.

Much of the world’s royalty as well as the “rich and famous” have been guests in the Alfonso. Stay here and you’ll feel like royalty too.

We stayed here for my birthday for a weekend break to Seville. The experience was first class from the moment we arrived. The staff were helpful, and had noticed it was my birthday without prompting - they even gave me a cake. The concierge gave us some great restaurant recommendations, and a few drinks in the terrace bar was the highlight. The outdoor swimming pool was unexpected - though a little deep for our daughter as there is no shallow area. Breakfast in the courtyard is a wonderful way to start the day. As a nice finishing touch as we headed off was the bell staff gave us some ice cold bottles of water for our drive. All in all a great experience.

The hotel is not only extremely beautiful but it is very well-located. We were within an easy walk to all the major attractions in Seville.

The food was absolutely wonderful! We enjoyed the generous buffet breakfast each morning while sitting in the lovely courtyard. We also loved having a romantic dinner in the courtyard while listening to their wonderful pianist. What a treat! The wait staff is truly excellent and we really appreciated the polished service and the excellent food. The sea bass at dinner was truly outstanding.

The pool area is really pretty and we fully intended to spend some time there. However, we stayed too busy sightseeing. We did check it out and noticed that the temperature of the water was wonderful - like bath water - and the chairs were comfortable and the service seemed to be attentive. The pool is a beautiful spot for relaxing so I recommend it to other travelers.

Our room was quite beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. We appreciated the ample closet space and the wonderful view of the city. However, bring your ear plugs! Our room (facing the front) was extremely noisy! In fairness to the hotel, it wasn't the street noise that was so bothersome as it was the noise from the family upstairs. They had some very out of control children that were screaming and running around until 1:00 in the morning or later. We had to call downstairs to complain but the hotel took care of it and told the family to keep it down. The hotel is very old, of course, so some of the water pipes make strange sounds in the rooms above and/or nearby. Again, ear plugs make a difference for that. I also suspect that rooms facing the back of the hotel (the pool area) are probably much quieter.

It really is a special hotel and I do highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Great views of the cathedral in rooms facing the front of the hotel but the rooms there are noisier...

We stayed at this gorgeous hotel as a birthday treat for my husband who travels a lot. We arrived after a drive from Marbella and although the hotel is a little tricky to actually drive into, we eventually found it and it was worth the hassle.

This is a beautiful building. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we were quickly shown to our room. I let the reception staff know it was my husbands birthday and a few hours late a cake with 'Happy Birthday' written on it and a bottle of champagne appeared in our room - only a superb quality hotel goes to this trouble.

The hotel is so central but we were not disturbed by traffic noise at all. They have electronic shutters on the outside of all windows which no only ensure blackout at night but also reduces the noise (My daughter found these 'so cool').

After a walk around Seville and dressing for dinner, we went to the outdoor bar for a few drinks and some tapas. The staff here were so incredibly friendly and welcoming. The have a great selection of wines and spirits and the tapas is fabulous. If you go you must try La Bomba - delicious.

The beds were very comfortable and rooms were furnished to a very high standard as you'd expect from a Luxury Collection hotel.

In the lobby there's a fantastic little museum (really a few artefacts but interesting) and worth stopping by.

We were extremely surprised to find that this central city hotel also has a great pool with a restaurant, bar and ice cream cart all in one space. A great location to spend a hot day or after an afternoon of sightseeing.

Breakfast was served on the ground floor, internal terrace and was a fabulous buffet affair. There was so much to choose from and we thought it was a very reasonable 29 euros.

We will definitely return to the beautiful city of Seville and will stay at the Alfonso XIII Hotel - an outstanding hotel.

I hope you enjoy this hotel and the beautiful city of Seville as much as we did.

Happy and safe travels

What a place to spend a couple of nights! Newly renovated, Alphonse XIII offers a perfect mix of today's comfort with the elegance of the beginning of last century. Nice room, great breakfast, nice pool area and a great bar for that last drink in the evening. Love to come back a cold autumn week- end so we can spend more time in the hotel's various lounge areas with a cognac and a good book!

Just a gorgeous old hotel and a perfect taste of Seville. it is located near all the shopping areas and sites of interest.
our room was very nice but faced West so we could not enjoy the large patio because of the sun and heat.
we had lunch the next day in the hotel and it was very good. the service was very professional and attentive.

Room Tip: try for an easterly exposure.
