Being in Seville was a treat in itself but being able to call the Hotel Alfonso home while we were there was a bonus and an amazing experience ... from the stunning architecture of the hotel with its history, to the staff, its incredible ambience, sharing drinks outside in their magnificent courtyard to a scrumptious breakfast served every morning and all of this within walking distance of EVERYTHING. What more could you possibly ask for??

This was a special place from the start. The exterior look of it, the drive way in and the service at car was excellent. The reception experience from start to room was what you would expect of a five star. The room was very very large (234) and very clean. The food at the hotel was well served and priced and excellent with a great atrium type seating area for dinner or breakfast. Right in the centre of where it is happening in Seville - the beef hotel experience I have had!!

One of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in (we have stayed in several Luxury Collection properties). The restaurant in the interior courtyard was simply the most perfect spot for a typically Seville lunch - I highly recommend it if you are not staying at this property. Also, the Friday evening jazz in the American Bar was really fun in a beautiful locale. What makes this property over-the-top though is the service of Antonio Morilla as concierge (and his daytime staff members). He arranged lunches, rental cars, tours, train details for us in other cities in addition to Seville. Always organized - writing down details. We also had the help of a female trainee from Paris who was delightful - really listened to what we were looking for and gave us great recommendations. Our room faced the street with the light rail train so there was a bit of noise at night - but nothing that ear plugs wouldn't completely block.

Room tip: Select a room away from the street side if you are sensitive to noise (the light rail train and the late night folks walking home create a slight noise). Otherwise - just use your ear plugs.

You know you are in a special place when tours of the town include your hotel on an historic basis. Many sites are very convenient - Cathedral, Tower of Gold , river and cruises and the Alcazar are all 5 minutes away. You can change money at the bank Santander - two minutes away ( this is nice because in Barcelona I could not get a bank to exchange money since I didn't have an account.) Breakfast at Starbucks ( across the street ) became a regular thing - a window seat provides people watching of superior caliber. Up the street (Constitution Ave ) and across from the Cathedral is a great tapas place - Genova. The hotel restaurant is quite nice - ambience, good food and great staff . Even considering the great location, good food and beautiful rooms and common spaces - it is the people that make this hotel a special place. There is not a member of the staff who was not helpful.

Just visited this hotel which is architecturally beautiful, well located and recently refurbished.Absolutely nothing wrong with the hotel and ,despite what I will say,I think you should visit-you may be luckier than us
1.i asked the hotel to book 4 restaurants and arrange an airport transfer.i received no information after five days and telephoned. They dropped my call and I called again. The concierge was busy .Could I call back in 30 mins. Finally all sorted and received an email.Needed to change flight and sent an email. No response.Three days later ring again and ask for them to send email confirm.
2,I booked 4 rooms and had emailed to be put on third floor. They promised they would take net of my request. On arrival only one room on third floor was offered.
3.We were a large group and requested tables together at breakfast each day at 9 am.Every day was like Groundhog Day as if it was fresh information to the staff.I would normally get very annoyed but left it to one of my daughters to sort out.Unbelievably each day was a drama. The member of staff on the last day acted as if we had asked for a Venetian masked Ball for 300 people at 20 mins notice (actually just a circular table under a heater).
4.Breakfast spread was impressive but the scrambled eggs each morning were barely lukewarm. The reason for this is unlike other hotels none of the food containers had lids.I asked the chef to make some fresh scrambled eggs. You don't do this by jigging eggs around in a frying pan.
5.Food at dinner was good?service wasn't.Asked three times to see the wine list and three times for water to be replenished. You don't expect this at prices 3x those of a good tapas restaurant.
6.Management should go and sit by the pool and listen to guests say "the water's too cold".It really is-never known anything like it.A worker was happily using a power saw for 3 hours in the afternoon while I was there. Not acceptable-if remedial work is needed you should do it when no one is there.9-12am?The two pool boys seemed happy to talk in loud voices while going about their work. There is quite loud pop music blaring out around the pool.Do the guests really want this?Has anyone asked?
7.Cleaners in the room left 2 wine glasses instead of water glasses, their pass key,a ripped pillow case and smashed vanity mirror. There was a tube of half eaten Pringles in the mini bar.Members of staff would use Wilkie talkies when walking down corridors.
8.In the bar we were asked if we wanted a drink. We ordered cocktails.Another bar staff member came up and confidently started to lay down place settings and asked if we wanted cocktails. We told him we had ordered and he went away to get a third member of the bar staff who asked-yes you've got it.
This isn't the best hotel in the world as some guests say.Try the Four Seasons in Maui where you were assigned a personal concierge who rang every morning to check things were working fine.
Before you get here I would give up Four Seasons/Ritz Carlton ideas.Accept that you're going to a very good 3-4 star hotel and you will enjoy the experience.
