We had a 1 night stay here and had booked a grand premium red level thru LHW as a member. The red level is a kind of "club" level. You get extra amenities, service and lounges. We parked outside and the valet was there prompt to take our luggage and welcoming us and parked the car.( 34 euro for parking, a bit too much i think). We had a nice check-in, proffesional and efficient. Also greeted to a glass of Cava which we had to pass because of a long drive from Lisbon. Every thing went smooth and we where met by a Guest Relations representative which acknowledge me as a LHW and then a Red level. Short tour of the hotel, then the tour of the One bedroom suite we got upgrated too. The room was nice, maybe not my personal style but anyway. The room had a lot of high tech features such as HDMI under the TV, so we watched the latest Dexter thru laptop. And a lot of lighting options. Rooms seamed newly furnished.Big bathroom, door on the shower was a bit tricky so the floor got pretty wet at first. We went down to the red level lounge, and there was snacks( iberico ham, small bites, cheese etc..) and a kind of a bar with ice, vodkas, beer, sherry and so on. So a pretty nice place to relax and take a bite and a drink. All included. We went out and had a medium meal at a mexican restaurant. When we came back there where no turndown service as promised, maybe this because we went out late but still a 5star should have housekeeping on alert 24/7. That resulted in lack of clean towels the next morning and of course small details like curtains and general tidiness. We had a great night sleep. Then we went down for breakfast and was met by a very nice host Maria, which smiled and escorted us into the red level lounge for breakfast. This was great because the breakfast room was pretty full. In there we had a privat host taking our a la carte breakfast and making sure everything was good. The breakfast was pretty good but small things could make it great. Like the presentation of the food, melons with stones, pineapple with still small pieces of skin, asked for cold milk, got a mug of luke warm( this was a misunderstanding as i was having tea) but still she should have made sure that i wanted a glass of cold milk. Just for the record, it was a great stay and great breakfast, but only small things would make it excellent. The check out was a bit slow due to couples wanting map info of the city in the reception area. All in all i would definitely stay here again, a great hotel, the red level really makes you feel good, and a la carte breakfast. Plus Maria ;)

I stayed at this hotel as part of a Queenslander tour. We were given the smallest rooms offered. The rooms were well equipped, with a nice selection of soaps, shampoos, etc. Our refrig was broken, and was "repaired" by someone coming up and unplugging it and saying "call if it isn't getting cold in 1 hour". It never got cold, and since we seemed to be "bothering" we never called again. The room was not well maintained. I don't think the baseboards had been vacuumed in quite some time. The front desk staff weren't rude, but didn't seem to want to be to helpful. The breakfast was very good, and the breakfast staff were so helpful and attentive. The whirlpool on the roof was nice. Would I stay there again? probably not, and if I did I would be sure to ask for a different room other than 428.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights while touring Spain. This hotel is in a remarkably great location and has above standard luxury for what you would normally find in 4* hotels throughout Europe. We were especially pleased with the surprise jacuzzi on the rooftop and the lovely breakfast, which was included in our stay. I also enjoyed the fact that each hotel room door had a unique replica of a famous painter from Spain, and each floor a different theme!

Let me start by saying, I thought this was a ME by MELIA hotel. It's not. That being said, it is in a good location. As soon as we entered the lobby, there was a smell that never went away, of -well for lack of a better word-sewer. The hotel was clean, the staff was excellent and helpful. I had a problem that they were VERY helpful in resolving.
I booked the romance suite.
The room was weird. It was all white, and had a bizarre layout. No real window except to what seemed to be an air shaft , but was closed up with curtains. they kept it in ambient lamp light, and rose Petals on the bed. It had an oversized tub/shower thing.
Did not care for it at all.

Gran Melia Colon has lovely rooms designed in contemporary style. The wi-fi wasnt working in the hotel when we arrived. Also, parking is quite expensive. The hotel is also not too close to the city highlights.

Room Tip: Choose the Panaromic city view
