We were two couples and a single in our 70's staying in the Fontecruz for two nights in early May 2013. The hotel is in a great location within a short walk to the Alcazar and Cathedral. The staff was quite friendly and helpful. Our rooms were on the second floor but down some stairs and away from the noisy central lobby area. Many of the rooms were situated around the lobby area and are subject to noise and guest activities. The stairs to our lower level were poorly lit and were all black marble as are the main stairs but with no contrasting color strips at the stair edges. The result is that it is difficult to distinguish one step from the next and dangerous for us elders and folks who wear bifocle glasses. One of our group lost footing on the stairs to our rooms and fell, luckily with no ill effects except for a bruised ego.
The rooms had a modern black, white and silver decor and the floors were bare making for clean carpetless walking. The baths were well appointed, clean and up to date. The beds were comfortable. The single window looked out into a small center atrium of the building, giving ample light during the day. However, our room had only dim lamps, making it difficult to read or select clothes after dark.
We chose to include breakfast at the hotel. While not spectacular, the selection was adequately varied and offered the option of asking for eggs and other cooked items from the kitchen.

One night we tried to relax in the center atrium/lobby area but the couches and chairs were so uncomfortable we had to leave after only a few minutes. We felt it might have been a case of a designer more interested in decor rather than guest comfort. There were no other guests using the lounge area either

We planned to have pre-dinner cocktails on the roof terrace but it was unusually chilly that night and it started to rain before we could sit down. The terrace provides a good view of the city and would have been a nice experience. We did not use the pool.

The hotel's best asset is its location, close to the major sites and many bars and restaurants.

The hotel is in the historic centre of town, in easy walking distance of just about everything Seville has to offer. In an old building, the decor is boutique in style, clean, modern and spacious ...indeed when we were there in Easter week it felt far from fully occupied. Being in the centre, the streets are incredibly narrow ... don't expect to be able to drive up to the hotel...even in a cab. Make sure you have a good map and know exactly where you are going. Our cab dropped us off nearby but we took a wrong turning and promptly got lost!

Breakfasts were fine as continental breakfasts go, and you could also get scrambled egg and bacon. The staff were all friendly and helpful and all spoke excellent English.

Others have spoken about noise outside, but we faced the swimming pool on the interior and found the evenings wonderfully quiet. There has also been mention of the black lampshades...a minor thing, but they really are a bit useless for allowing light for reading by! Final downside, again minor, but I really did miss not having tea making facilities in the room.

On checking out of this hotel, they would not accept credit card payment in Euro's. Instead this hotel (in combination with their bank) would only accept a dollar conversion at 1.36 (versus the 1.30 market rate). The net effect is that this is an additional 4% on your bill that the hotel and bank collect. This was the only hotel in Spain that we went to that this happened.

We spent 5 nights at this hotel - great location, central but tucked away from the busy touristy cathedral square. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfasts were good and served until 11.00 a.m. - a bonus for those who are not early risers. However, would have appreciated tea/coffee making facilities in the room. On arrival we were offered a room on the inside with a huge 8 foot bed - real wow factor - but it was so dark. We asked to be moved and went to another room which at least had daylight. Like the previous reviewer, we found the moulded black plastic lampshades absolutely not fit for purpose - impossible to read by. Please remedy this as then I could give it an excellent rating.

This hotel is in a fantastic location - 3 minutes walk from the cathedral. All of the staff were very friendly and as helpful as one could want. Willing to organise anything you wanted to do, give advice, etc. Breakfasts were good and the room was very clean.

Our only complaint was the darkness of the room - it was impossible to read [unless you sat on the bidet] and very difficult to even see what clothes you were putting on. We would recommend that the black plastic lampshades be replaced with light shades, and that there be a couple of other lamps to light the room, should you so wish.

This is a great hotel just 1 minute away from the cathedral square and tapas bars of Santa Cruz - could not have been better located. Down a very narrow alley that our taxi driver skilfully navigated, but if they drop you off on the nearby road it is no problem. A designer style hotel - very smartly renovated in a chic, minimalist style. Room was very comfortable and overlooked the Sevillian rooftops, but the best views are from the rooftop patio, where the Cathedral fills the skyline. Weather was awful throughout our whole Semana Santa stay - rainy and chilly - so we did not get to use the rooftop bar and loungers during our stay, nor the pool veranda, but they are very nice. We had breakfast one morning which was average - we chose to have brunch outside during our walks. The massage services are awesome and well priced. Only downside of the hotel is the night/ early morning noise.....especially if you overlook the front of the hotel, where we were awoken several times. This was not overly problematic but worth asking for a quiet room if possible. Would recommend this hotel for service, cleanliness and location.
