In between wedding and party we decided to get away for some days. Hotel Palacio de Villapanés was by far the best place to do so. The staff is helpful and friendly to a degree that is beyond everything I experienced before. The rooms are spacious and quiet. The place itself, a recently restored palace, is a gem. I remember asking the staff for a nice terrace to have a drink in Sevilla. In all modesty he lead us to their garden: "this is the best place in Sevilla." And he was right, on all accounts.

This review has to start with huge thanks to the delightful staff Giacomo and Lorena who are very much front of house. Their wonderful welcome and recognition throughout our 4 night stay with suggestions and directions and just general enthusiasm was a joy and really made this hotel a good choice.

We had been disappointed to find that breakfast takes place below ground when we had hoped to be sitting in the sun. However the breakfast room is very well lit and once again has extremely welcoming staff, special thanks to Hamsa for his catering attention. Breakfast choices are excellent and a good way it proved, to be in a relaxing environment to start the day.

Our room was decorated in rather dark colour choices for our taste but had extremely comfy beds and linen and a frequently stocked mini bar.

We did use the roof terrace which was peaceful and nice to rest in the late afternoon. It could do with a little designer attention in keeping with the delightful inner courtyard garden on the ground floor.

We would all recommend this hotel for its charming staff and personal touch. Also for its location far enough away from noise but ease of access to everything. A lovely stay, thank you.

You don’t get what you pay for at this hotel. Sorry, but that’s the bottom line. My wife and I arrived at the Alma Sevilla after first staying at the Palace Hotel in Barcelona and the Ritz Hotel in Madrid. We paid more to stay at this hotel so we expected our experience to at least equal the other two hotels. Far from it, I am sorry to say. For starters, there is no concierge. No one greets you upon arrival. You are left to pull your luggage up the steps of this Moorish style former palace of a hotel and figure it out for yourself.

The rooms are very nice — no question there. So is the general atmosphere of the property. You do very much feel like you are staying in a 17th Century palace that has been reinvented as a 21st Century hotel. The staff is very friendly and earnest. There’s just too few of them to meet everyone’s needs, and that’s a very large issue for a hotel that presents itself, and prices itself, as a five-star luxury property. I think the restaurant employs one person to do everything — including room and lobby service. You can wait forever to be waited on in the restaurant and, when you are waited on, you will wait forever more to actually receive service. Travelers should also know that there is no bar here. You are told upon check in that you can order “whatever you want from wherever you are in the palace.” But that brings us back to the issue of being seriously understaffed. They don’t even include breakfast as part of the price, something that literally every other hotel of quality in Europe does offer.

We got our first warning sign about this hotel before we ever arrived and we should have heeded it. We booked a stay of five nights and got our price. Then we ADDED a sixth night and the hotel re-priced the entire package at a HIGHER rate. Imagine that. We had to fight to get our original price re-instated.

If you’re going to pay five-star rates, you better get five-star service. You don’t here and the management of the Alma Sevilla hotel chain better wake up to that reality very quickly.

I normally stay in Marriott hotels when I travel, but there weren't any in Seville. We needed a hotel room that could accommodate 3 people. This hotel was a pleasant surprise! We were in room #1. The room is very large with a tall ceiling (at least 18-20 feet.) I had a "front row seat" to the Semana Santa procession that went directly in front of the hotel. There were refreshments in the refrigerator that were included in the price of the room (beer, soda, water, orange juice.) The beds were very comfortable. The location is very good. You can walk to most places from the hotel.

The only issue that I had was on my first night. It was hot, so I turned the AC down. It was still hot. The next day, I learned that I didn't have it turned on! User error! Also, there is not a door to the bathroom. However, there is an enclosed shower and toilet closet. The bathtub and sink are in the "open" part of the bathroom.

We LOVED this hotel! We were staying during Semana Santa, so an unusual (and very busy) time to be in Sevilla, and this hotel was perfect in every way. Our room was spacious, beautiful and the bed super comfortable. Fantastic bathroom, too. The hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous and the restaurant, through pricey, is also great. The staff, especially Giacomo, couldn't have been nicer. We truly didn't want to leave and when I hopefully go back to Sevilla one day, we would stay there again.
