We walked by contenedor on our first night in Spain. I thought it was actually called "Slow Food" as there is a sign stating that in the window. The place was packed & the decor was really funky, modern & artistic. I knew we had to try it. We came in the next night and were greeted by an extremely friendly gentleman, Yann, who informed us that they were full (they had reservations coming in) except at the bar. We decided to sit at the bar & we are so happy we did! The menus are written on a chalkboard each day as they change the specials according to what fresh ingredients they have. The English menu board was being used by a large party so our very sweet bartender brought us the one in Spanish as I spoke to her in Spanish when I was ordering our wines. She recommended several & let us try several. All were VERY good. Although I can speak a bit of Spanish, it is Mexican Spanish, so I was having a tough time understanding what the dishes were. Yann came over to check on us & he happily translated, in detail, the ENTIRE menu; even though the place was packed! He even helped us understand what certain terms are so that we would be better served in other establishments. We started with a green salad which was organic, fresh & delicious! I decided on the traditional ibérico pork & my boyfriend had lamb chops. They were both to die for! Yann, came over at the end of the night & wrote down some other restaurant recommendations. Being a former restaurant owner & manager, I assumed he was the owner. He is the manager & he is one of the best ones out there. He is passionate about food, service & life! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. It belongs MUCH HIGHER up on the rating list! We will be back before we leave.

This is an excellent place for a sit-down meal, to relax and enjoy! Dishes are prepared solely with fresh ingredients bought from the market or directly from suppliers. Its slow food, carefully prepared, very tasty. I've been living here for over 3 years and its one of my favorite restaurants. The wine list is carefully chosen and you can get good recommendations from the staff, or directly from the person who picked each and every wine in the list. I strongly recommend the duck and mushroom rice.

Recommended by our landlord who is a local, we went to Contendor the first night we arrived at Seville and staightaway fell in love with it. The place is small, decor is quirky but beautiful and tasteful. The owner and staff and the most friendly people we have ever met from a restaurant. We were slightly nervous when we entered, not knowing what to expect. We don't speak a lot of Spanish which doesn't help either. A tall guy in black t-shirt and jeans (who is the owner btw) greeted us in such casual, friendly and helpful manner that we were instantly relaxed. He took time explaining everything on the wine list, and did so with the menu too, explaining not only the ingredients but also how it would be cooked. It was nice when he said they were more than happy to change certain ingredients such as vegetables in a salad if there is anything particular we don't eat. Then he gave us space to decide. After placing the order, it was also nice of him to suggest that the number of dishes we ordered may be too much for us, and he could serve less than half of the pate board so we wouldn't be too stuffed.

The food arrived at the right pace. Whenever we finish one, another was soon to follow. Every mouthful was a joy and excitement. The kitchen is semi-open, so you can see what the chefs are doing, but not in a "showing off" way. This place ticked every box for us: nice surrounding, the slight casualness in the air so you can relax yet smart enough for a dinner date, beautifully created and cooked food, and the burning passion from the owner and staff by speaking to them. I can't believe there is a comment on the "lack of passion" in the food, as the menu changes frequently, all based on the best ingredients available at the time. We dined there twice in 4 days and most of the cooked dishes were different! These guys put so much thought and effort into their cooking!

We were in Spain for over 2 weeks and ate at many great places. This was the only place that we went back for the second time, and enjoyed even further. OK, it may not be for everyone: the place has a sense of "San Francisco cool", and the artwork on the walls, painted by the owner's brother, may not be everyone's cup of tea--which we loved. There is only one menu, hand-written on a little blackboard, which the owner carries to each table and explains. If there are many non-Spanish-speaking customers on the night, the service may be slow, as the menu had to be translated. All the food is also freshly cooked to the order. For the quality of the food and the portion size, we both think it is good value. The winelist is excellent, too, not to mention the sherry and the brandy;) However, if you are after crisp white linen, waiters in black bow ties, celebrity chefs, meal for 2 for 25 euro, or to be in and out of the restaurant within 2 hours, you may as well go elsewhere. Contenedor is a place for people who love, care about and understand food.

This was our favorite restaurant in our 12-day trip to Andalusia and that’s saying something as we ate in some great places. It was so good we went back a second time, which we never do on a trip. The care and attention to cooking creatively with fresh, seasonal ingredients with nothing pre-prepared showed in the results. As a couple we shared 3 dishes in succession, each better than the last. They change the menu continually to fit with what’s in the market., so you can’t be sure of getting any particular dish, but it doesn’t matter. You can see the guys working in the kitchen (behind glass) preparing each order from scratch. The first night we had to wait a little for the last dish, as it became crowded, but it was easily worth it. Service was great; we met a lovely waitress (thank you, Nadia) who’d only been there a month, but was passionate about the slow food concept and the restaurant. Great and interesting wine choices too—could not have been better. Don’t miss the crispy rice in squid ink or any of the other great dishes. We never could get to dessert—too full. We were lucky to be staying in the Macarena or might not have discovered this place. But it’s worth the trip wherever you are! Great casual funky atmosphere, done with flair.
