It looks interesting, a piece of modern art in the middle of the city. With a small fee, you can go up and see Sevilla from above.. It's not so big, so your visit will be done quickly.

In an attempt to redevelop an area of Seville this extravagant architectural feature was built and opened in 2011. It's known locally as 'Mushrooms' for obvious reasons and you will either like its appearance or not. But the view from the top is well worth the minimal entrance fee. There is a market, shops and an archeological museum on the lower ground floor (where you enter the lift for the roof) and some restaurants on the upper level. You walk along walkways on the roof to get a 360 degree view of Seville. Well worth the effort.

You don't get it when you see it on photos. It's BIG. Really. The case is just as with Cairo Pyramides: they are not so impressive on pictures. The Parasol isn't just a modern architecture example - it's future itself. You'll feel it when you go there. More to the case there is wonderful view of Old town from the top.

We stumbled across this amazing construction while trying to get somewhere else in Seville, having known about it beforehand thanks to TA and meaning to find it at some point, and the initial shock of the design and scale of it took my breath away. It's designed by a German architect and mainly made of wood, though this isn't very apparent, and I've since learnt it had a very slow & difficult birth which is worth investigating. Suffice to say here, it's built on the site of an old market and originally an underground car park was planned but this was scuppered by the discovery of Roman remains; which have been partially excavated and can be viewed underneath the Parasol. More interesting though, I feel, is what they eventually built on top at vast expense (100 million euro's apparently) and after a redesign and much controversy. Enabling visitors (at minimal cost) to walk across the structure on suspended pathways was a stroke of genius; as from there you get a much better appreciation of what it's made from and how. Definitely worth a visit. Tough on the locals though who were looking forward to having somewhere to park their cars at last.

Hidden among the stalls is a lovely little coffee shop. 2 coffees, 1 soft drink, fresh tortilla and bread all for 5 euros
