Almond Hill House was the perfect venue for our annual get together. We are three families - 13 of us in total ranging in age from 13 to 53 and we all had a great time.
Sarah and Matt were so helpful from the moment we booked, giving us help and advice on how best to allocate the rooms to the various members of our group and also with suggestions for supermarkets en route to the house from the airport. They gave us such a warm welcome when we arrived and had left some homemade bread and homemade olive oil for us - what a great start!
The setting is idyllic with stunning views of the mountains and the only sound is the tinkling of goat bells. It was so lovely to watch the herd of goats passing each day. The house is well furnished and the kitchen has everything you need. The colourful garden and large pool area are ideal for relaxing with plenty of shady spots for anyone who wants to escape the sun. Loved picking lemons from the tree! Evenings were very special sitting around the large table in the garden with the lights sparkling in the trees.
We enjoyed the walk down into Orgiva although it is a little rough in places so might not suit everyone. Had two amazing meals in the restaurant Baraka in town - best gazpacho ever and such great service.
A car is essential and we enjoyed trips to Granada and the white villages.
This is a gorgeous house in a fabulous location. The house is beautifully decorated, comfortable and practical, though we spent a lot of our time in the garden, which is very pretty with lots of shady spots to relax in. The pool is lovely too, with great views. We particularly enjoyed the half hour walk in to Orgiva past olive groves to get fresh bread in the mornings, exploring the white villages (touristy but very beautiful), going to Granada and looking round the local market.
Sarah and Matt made us feel very welcome and even brought us a bag of delicious fresh apricots from their garden and a wonderful bottle of olive oil from their own olive trees. There were three generations of us staying, ranging from one to eighty, and we all had a great time.
Beautiful house in a stunning location. Perfect for our family holiday. The hosts were brilliant from the initial booking to the day we said goodbye We would definately love to return one day
Secluded traditional farmhouse with all modern facilities. House was very comfortable and equipped with everything we needed. Great for us and our six friends. Great location for visits to beach, white villages, Granada Sierra Nevada & especially Alhambra Palaces which is a must visit if in the area. Fantastic walks from the farmhouse. Orgiva offers good local stores & lovely Thursday market. El Viejo Molino bar on main road into Orgiva was a good place for coffee, beer & tapas. We had a fantastic last evening here listening & dancing to a live performance of soul & reggae music, mixing wth the eclectic locals. Matt and Sarah excellent hosts.
We've just returned from our trip to Spain and the dreamy week we got to spend at Almond Hill House was the highlight. This charming and beautifully renovated cortijo set in the Las Alpujarras enjoys spectacular views and a private but very convenient setting. The owners are so delightful--greeting us upon arrival and always accessible but not at all intrusive. The layout of the house is perfect for one or several families who might each enjoy their own "section" of the property but share space as needed. We began with only our immediate family and were joined by another family. Together, we shared time but were also able to find time to spread out and enjoy our own separate and peaceful space. The kitchen and main living space were just perfect. We especially enjoyed the indoor garden with it's lovely fountain. Although it was a bit chilly for a swim when we were there, the outdoor pool area was so lovely--and what a treat to greet the local goatherders who passed by the wall behind the pool several times during our stay. The children enjoyed exploring the surroundings--playing ping-pong in the olive hut and picking lemons for fresh lemonade each afternoon were highlights. We loved exploring the area and found so many places quite convenient. We spent a lovely day in Salobrena and loved exploring Pomaniera--as well as buying cheese at a local shop on the short drive to Lanjaron. We really enjoyed being in Orgiva and had fantastic meals at a few local restaurants where we met some lovely locals who were quite warm and welcoming. Overall, this was a truly amazing location and cannot be beat!
We loved the house with good sized / large bedrooms. The views were stunning. The little touches in the house were lovely.
Matt and Sarah offered to do a small shop for us as the shops were all closed on the day of our arrival, Easter Sunday. We arrived at the house to home made bread and olive oil, fresh flowers and enough food to get us to the next day. There was Netflix & ping pong to keep the kids occupied in the evenings. The house was comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and the garden very peaceful. Matt and Sarah were good hosts and answered all questions posed to them, about the house, the local amenities and had useful tips.
We were a family of 10 with an age range between 74 - 6. All of us had a lovely time in this beautiful location.
As suggested by Sarah and Matt a car is recommended and the walk to the main town from the house has some hilly parts which may not suit everyone. We had no problems as we had hired a car, walked & biked ( again hired ) to town and my parents when not with us used a local taxi.
The house is absolutely wonderful and the garden is beautiful. The house is in a stunning spot and is the perfect place to spend some quality time as a family. It was a magical week and we hope to return next year
