“Lovely traditional Spanish architecture in great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

Just round the corner from the al Hambra this inexpensive hotel is built around a stunning traditional Spanish courtyard and furnished with lovely antiques. There isn't a restaurant and the breakfast is pretty ordinary but it has bags of character at a great price in a really great location.

First of all.....this is a gem!
The hotel is in the Albaycin area.....it's a restricted zone that is one-way. So, two things to remember.....don't bother with your UK sat nav....even if you have updated the maps...the map the hotel will send you is perfect....if you use it and believe it will deliver you to the hotel. Secondly, the streets are very narrow, so hire a small car! We paid €95 a night in August..bed, breakfast and secure......very secure......car parking about 30 metres from the hotel. The hotel is fairly new but extremely quirky. Spotlessly clean and the management go it if their way to be helpful..including a free laundry service. We stayed in Room 3 which looked out into an inner courtyard. Initially, we were disappointed that the window didn't really have a view but the room was so peaceful and cool, we didn't miss the view at all. Wifi is free but the signal fades above ground floor...however, there is a laptop free to use in the side lounge. Breakfast was more than adequate. Excellent coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, cold meats, fruit, croissants, bread, eggs, cheese, preserves, cereals.......what more do you need. The Albaycin is the old Arab quarter of a Granada at the top of a steep hill. However, it's worth the walk up to keep you in a very quaint quarter of the city. Thoroughly recommended a real hidden gem...only 11 rooms and very personalised service.

Room Tip: The upper rooms are more e pensive but have views of the Alhambra. The first floor is perfect....eve...

We spent a week in Andalusia, staying in Paradors in other centres, but the cost of the Parador in the Alhambra, Granada was so expensive that we decided to look at alternatives. I'm so glad we did! To my mind, this hotel is perfect. Specifically:

Communication throughout the booking process was quick and accurate.

Instructions for finding the hotel, which, as others have said, is set in the narrow cobbled streets of the Albayzin district, were very clear (as they needed to be!) Reaching the hotel by car is an adventure in itself, because the hotel is in a restricted area of the city and requires pre-arrangement, otherwise you will end up stuck on the wrong side of barriers. Not for those who find driving in very narrow streets on the wrong side of the road (for me at least), but we found it fun!

The hotel itself is set in a beautiful old building with a gorgeous open central courtyard and rooms set off this central space. We booked 3 rooms, including the "room with a view" of the Alhambra, which was quite fabulous. All the room were spacious, clean and well appointed, with good air conditioning.

The staff were fantastic. They could not have been more helpful, phoning to make bookings for us to various events and even making an arrangement for us to meet with the artist who paints some of the pictures they sell in the hotel. This in itself was another adventure, trying to find his apartment in the central city, but it was well worth it.

Breakfast was of a good standard.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Santa Isabel la Real. It was our favourite hotel of our stay in Spain (and that's saying something, because the Paradors we stayed in were pretty amazing). We would return there in a heartbeat. Very highly recommended.

Room Tip: The room with the view of the Alhambra is more expensive, but in our opinion, worth the extra cost.

The hotel is in the Albaycin area where there are few hotels and traffic is restricted. It is the area with the very best views of the Alhambra across the valley and the Sierra Nevada in the distance. It's a picture-perfect view.
Parking is included in the room rate if requested and it's vital, as is the approval system to gain access to the traffic restricted Albaycin. Fortunately the hotel provides very comprehensive advice in this area. The reception is charming and gives plenty of great advice on Granada, and on places to visit in the Sierras.
The hotel was converted from an old building some eight years ago and has been so well-maintained that it seems much newer. The rooms are quiet (aside from some potential floor noise from rooms above), and decorated in a simple traditional manner. Beds are comfortable and the bathroom large with (in some cases) a bath as well as a shower. Aircon works well.
Breakfast is served in a basement which is cool and calm. The selection is mostly uncooked European (meats, cheeses, yoghurts, cereals, bread) and is both wide and well-prepared.
The room rates represent great value for a hotel in this location.
Sadly most of the tapas places in the vicinity are for tourists (larger, unimaginative, poorly prepared tapas at elevated prices). Try ducking down into the Albaycin some two streets away and look for bars offering tapas free with a drink. The environment may seem a bit rough, but the tapas will be much better and infinitely cheaper.

Room Tip: Cheaper rooms look out on the central courtyard. More expensive ones have views toward the Alhambra...

Set in the historical Albayzin area of Granada, this family run hotel offers outstanding service and value. This former residence has been sympathetically and carefully restored. Rooms are arranged around a typical central courtyard and are cool and airy with modern ensuite facilities. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the fresh lemonade on offer was a wonderful treat. Breakfast was freshly prepared and plentiful. A bus stop just outside the hotel means you can get out and about with ease, but a walk around the streets and alleys in the immediate vicinity reveals some interesting plazas with bars, cafes and restaurants.

Room Tip: The rooms on the upper floors have the best views.

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a fantastic place to call home in Granada. We got a great deal on a room, and the amenities, quality of the room (especially the bed), and the excellent staff and complementary breakfast provided a value that far exceeded the price. The staff was extremely helpful in providing guidence on how to get to the main sights in Granada. The hotel's location is perfect for someone looking to explore Granada. It's within walking distance of the Moroccan area, close to a bus stop that takes you to the cathedral and Alhambra bus, and steps from Mirador San Nicolás, a lookout point that provides amazing views of the Alhambra.

We spent one night at this hotel in July. How I wish we could have stayed longer! The hotel is lovely and has such character. Our rooms were on the second floor, opening off the central courtyard. Both rooms were spotlessly clean and were of a very high standard. The hotel manages to combine the traditional aspects of the building with all the modern day requirements. As we were there in July, the air-conditioning was a must! The staff were so friendly and helpful. Thank you to Raquel for her advice on restuarants etc. Breakfast was very nice and I particularly enjoyed the homemade marmalade. The attention to detail made me feel that the owners obviously take great pride in their hotel. St Nicholas Square is a short walk away where the views of the Alhambra Palace are fantastic (especially in the evening). The walk down to the Plaza Nueva was quiet easy but I would recommend wearing shoes with a decent sole as the roads are pebbly. If you visit in the summer, I would recommend catching the bus for the return journey. The walk back up the hill in the heat was not quite so easy!! We definitely hope to stay here again.
