“Lovely place.”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

Very lovely old building, friendly staff, perfect location. Parking is easy next door. But - as ancient - buildings go - there are drawbacks. A wooden ceiling does not provide much acoustic isolation. Furthermore our window (room 6) was close to 4 aircon compressors. And: Pass the breakfast, go for a tapa instead (see there)

Room Tip: top floor should be quieter.

We were driving ourselves so had been attracted not just by the location but also that there was a secure car park just up the lane, exclusive to the hotel. The hotel is in a perfect location for exploring the Old Town and is managed in a totally hospitable, friendly, helpful and professional manner.
Our room was absolutely charming, loaded with atmosphere and providing cosy comfort overlooking the internal courtyard from the first floor. The ensuite bathroom was very well appointed considering the historic age of the Hotel. The views across to the Alhambra from the hotel and various nearby spots are breathtaking. The elevation of the Old Town allows for lovely evening breezes to waft through the various Squares where many charming restaurants provide tasty affordable fare and wines to add to the simply delightful atmosphere of this special quarter of Granada.
The breakfast room downstairs at the front of the hotel was filled with light and every breakfast delight one would wish for.
The staff were truly helpful and enthusiastic, offering good advice and informative assistance. We would not hesitate to revisit and highly recommend this jewel.

We stayed at the Santa Isabel La Real Hotel in Albaycín, a barrio on a hill facing the Alhambra, with very narrow and steep cobblestone streets for three nights while we toured Spain for a month. The hotel was not as beautiful as the photos on various web pages, but the area was very picturesque, albeit a distance from the Alhambra and the center of town. It is not a hotel for mobility-impaired persons, but we made the most of it. There are steps into the hotel from the street and steps down to the breakfast area. Also, steps to other areas. Not good for those with knee problems.

We were able to use the small public buses and taxis to get around. Had we done better research, we would not have stayed here since we are mobility impaired seniors. We were so impressed with the #1 rating on Trip Advisor that we failed to note much about the area or the hotel. Totally our fault.

The hotel was very clean, the breakfast was just OK and there was good transportation to and from Plaza Nueva and Alhambra. There were good views of Alhambra from various scenic points, which require a long steep walk up and down. Very picturesque part of town with narrow cobblestone streets.

The location is not good for older or mobility impaired persons. Cobblestone streets were very narrow and steep. Had to either stop for cars or stand against walls to let cars pass. Could be dangerous but everyone seems to be very careful. Lots of climbing. If you are coming to see the Alhambra there are many hotels in the center of town, which would be better for mobility impaired persons and would be much closer to it. There is one road down and one up. Breakfast buffet is fair for Spain; not great and not bad. Staff not empathetic to mobility disabilities. They kept recommending restaurants and sights that were not accessible for us. We finally gave up asking and just did our own thing. They were helpful in getting us tickets to various things but it was like pulling teeth because we had to ask so many questions. We spoke Spanish and the staff spoke English, so it was not a language problem. I think it was that they used only certain vendors for things and did not think through the other options until asked repeatedly about them. This was very frustrating.

Overall, we would recommend for the young and mobile. Others, should stay somewhere closer to town.

This hotel is situated in the old Albacin quarter which is an experience in itself. It is only a stones throw from a delightful small square with four restaurants to choose from where you can lose yourselves in the tranqullity and peace of the balmy summer and the views of the Alhambra. Local buses run regularly to the town centre which is recommended if you don't like walking up hills. Our room was large and comfortable and breakfasts, whilst not outstanding, were more than adequate. Staff were extremely helpful. The help yourself liquour in the guests sitting room was a lovely touch. Parking aws useful but does come at a price.

We were very happy with our choice of hotels. It's a restored 16th century house in the Albacin quarter. It's quiet and picturesque with narrow, winding cobblestone streets. The hotel has about a dozen rooms some overlooking the interior atrium and others with an outside view. The rooms are bright, clean, well-furnished and comfortable. The staff is very helpful and friendly answering 'typical tourist questions' graciously. There is a plaza a few blocks down the road with several small restaurants. Do not totally trust your GPS - it did get us there but it was quite interesting. I noticed later that the buses took a much more straight-forward route. My advice would be to park your car and then walk or take the bus...they run very frequently and quite late. Would definitely stay there again.

We enjoyed a warm welcome, spotless room/bathroom and the reception service was of an excellent standard. Nothing was too much trouble and the receptionists spent time giving us invaluable advice and tips, booking good quality attractions for us on request.
Car parking was excellent.

We stayed in the Santa Isabel la Real for 3 nights and were very pleased with our choice. It's in an amazing location, just a couple of hundred yards from the Mirador with a magnificent view of the Alhambra and snowy mountains beyond. The hotel is really special and feels very authentic, with its galleried wooden landing, open to the sky and the courtyard below. Breakfast was good, with cereal, cold meats, home made preserves, sliced fresh oranges with cinnamon and breads and pastries.

The front door is always manned and at all times the staff were exceptionally helpful and speak excellent English. They have information about buses and very good advice about Alhambra tickets, recommending that we printed ours off in the Alhambra bookshop, which has very helpful staff, who helped us decipher our unintelligible ticket information.
,
When you arrive, take the bus from outside the Cathedral or in Plaza Nueva and get off just outside the hotel - if you don't, it's a long slog up the narrow, cobbled alleyways when you're pulling luggage! The hotel web site has all the info you'll need on how to get there.

Room Tip: Choose a room with an outside window, as those looking onto the courtyard appeared to be quite dark.
