If you visit the Mirador de San Nicolas for great views of the Alhambra, this small restaurant is nearby and a good luncheon destination. Their outdoor tables are on the cobblestone street, great for people watching. The croquettes and tortilla Espana were very good. Service was friendly and efficient. Moderate prices.

In addition to serving authentic Spanish dishes in a quiet corner of Plaza Larga in the heart of the Albaicin, the family who run Puerta de las Pesas make you feel at home. I found myself returning to the restaurant numerous times during my stay in the Albaicin last summer. In fact, I just made plans to meet a friend there when I return to Granada next month! As far as the dishes prepared and served at Puerta de las Pesas (be sure to ask about the historic significance of the name of the restaurant), some of my favorites are the carne con salsa (pork with sauce), revueltos (scrambled eggs with asparagus), and pisto con huevos (fried eggs served over ratatouille). But, without a doubt, the best paella I have ever had was prepared by Fernando!

I have been to this restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. Everything they serve is delightful and the family that runs the bar is wonderful. The prices are very reasonable for the area, with the Menu Del Dia ranging from E9.50-11.50 and include a drink, a first course, second course, dessert and bread. You choose which plates you want for your courses and your dessert, my personal favorite choice is first course Salmorejo (Gazpacho like tomato and garlic gold soup), second course, Lomo con Ajo (pork with garlic) and for dessert I love the Natillas (similar to a vanilla pudding). Nearly everything made in this little restaurant is homemade and typical food found within a normal Spanish household. If you can sit outside and enjoy a little people watching while soaking up the sunshine. Puerta de las Pesas is a must when visiting the Albayzin!!!

Completely family run, Puerta de las Pesas is amazing, authentic Spanish food at really reasonable prices. I've never had anything there I didn't like and I have gone frequently during the time I've been in Spain. The family who runs it is extremely nice and are happy to chat with you if you know a bit of Spanish and it's not too busy. A great addition, this restaurant is the only one in the plaza with an air conditioned salon, which is on the second floor. Great for the rainy winter or too hot summer, but when the weather is good the terrace is the place to be. From the terrace you can watch people coming through the old archway in the thousand year old wall and you have a great view into the square where markets are held nearly every day.

Good authentic Spanish food, served by the family who makes it, at very reasonable prices. If you can spare some time and speak a little Spanish ask the owner about the history of the area. He is a local history buff and can tell you everything you want to know about the Albaicin. When we were there during the summer they were upon from 10a til about midnight. Breakfast including hand squeezed fresh orange juice was E3.50 and the Menu del Dia ran from E9.50- E11.50 and included an appetizer, main dish, dessert, glass of wine or beer (or soft drink) and bread.
We went several times and were never disappointed.
