“Good coffee”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

Those who are struggling to get a nice coffee or a nice simple meal should consider Cafe 4 Gatos. Healthy breakfast options, Illy coffee, and tasty toasties. Seats in the sun looking on to the Alhambra and away from the crowds.

“A tiny little cafe in the middle of the Albayzin, Granada”
Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

We were staying close to this cafe so decided to try it for breakfast one day. The owner dishes out lovely meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner from a tiny little kitchen which is open and very clean. We enjoyed muesli with apple or banana with milk or yoghurt, tea or coffee 2.95€ and toast with cream cheese, smoked salmon, tomato and capers, plus fresh squeezed orange juice and tea or coffee, 5.95€. Both were delicious and filling. Seems to serve mainly locals but the owner speaks English and has an English menu to choose from with about 7 choices.
Highly recommended

“Healthy cafe and lattes”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

After eating a lot of unhealthy food in Granada it was great to find this place. Good healthy food available, wholemeal bread, and cafe lattes. Plus a nice terrace. Was pretty popular.

“Neighborhood Boho-chic?”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

To merely characterize 4 Gatos as neighborhood "Boho-chic" might be an approach to describing it, but a bit unjust since the place defies categorization.

To begin with its name, "4 Gatos" comes from a local saying about a space that has “just about enough room for four cats"; which is to say, it’s small. It’s also to say, it’s cozy, because it's not unusual to find 5 to 15 or so patrons seated or standing at the bar--alongside the proverbial “cats,” that is. And since this review requires a "100 character minimum," it is to be noted that at least 100 characters are likely to show up there over the course of a typical week, including both locals and visitors from just about everywhere, speaking many different languages, enjoying one of the best coffees to be found in Granada, or the desayunos or bocadillos that range from the traditional to the more unusual, such as the tostada with smoked salmon, tomatoes, cream cheese and capers.

Catch the English-speaking, Spanish owner working the bar in the mornings while his California-born wife sends down various home-baked goods, such as California-style carrot cake, New York-style cheesecake, and a very light and delicious Moussaka. For those who prefer a terrace to the bar, 4 tables are set outside in Placeta Cruz Verde with a stunning view of La Alhambra in the near distance that could leave one feeling, while seated there, as if one had been personally painted into a living, breathing work of art.

Not least, one must say something about the wines, which are great and not pricey, and not all are easy to find elsewhere in Granada. Draft beer is cheap, and a few specialty beers are served by the bottle. Other alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are options. It's also open evenings after siesta and some holidays. A great place to land when trekking up Albaycín to Mirador San Nicolas.
