We stayed here with friends for a couple of days and we had the most wonderful time. We loved the hotel – it dates back to the early 16th century, and has lovely wooden balconies looking onto very small courtyards – tons of atmosphere! When we were there, there were thunderstorms, and I went out in the night – it was spectacular! (but don’t worry, not a common occurrence!). Our room was quite small, but we were out most of the time in fascinating Granada, so it was great for our needs – an extremely comfortable bed, and wonderful pillows –you can request different types of pillows, depending on your needs. The bathroom is fine. There are shutters on the windows, so light doesn’t come into your room. It was also very quiet – but our friends had a room overlooking the street, and could hear quite a lot of noise on Saturday night, so if you need to, contact the hotel to ask to be in one of the majority of the rooms, which overlook a courtyard and are super quiet. The service at the hotel is excellent – we were given a map, and the girl at reception showed us all the different areas, places to visit and eat, and explained how to get to the Alhambra. The hotel is situated in a perfect position, very close to a small river in the Arab quarter, so perfect for walking to all parts of the town. It serves free tea/coffee from 4.30 to 7.30, and you can sit in one of the little courtyards, or the common room, reading, relaxing or chatting. We had two separate bookings – one night with breakfast and one with a free breakfast (it depends on how and when you book) – the breakfast is good. We ate in different places in town, and really enjoyed visiting the bar ‘La Fontana’ – just along the river from the hotel – you can sit outside and watch the world pass by. Also near the hotel are 11th century baths, El Banuelo, which are open (free) on Sundays – well worth visiting, and not widely advertised (to our knowledge). Note that the hotel provides very clear instructions on parking in town and coming to the hotel by taxi (which is deducted from your parking bill) – this is provided in Spanish and English – make sure you print it off before you come to Granada, as you need to follow every step of the instructions! So considering its location and its character, we think that this is an ideal place to stay, and we will certainly be back!
