“TAKE YOUR COFFEE HERE !”
Reviewed May 29, 2014

Needing a break after a couple of serious sightseeing in Lahambra,
we noticed a litle door through wich we could see a quaint oldfashioned tapio with small marble tables and bamboo chairs.
The name above the door read "Hotel America *"
One star !!
Well inside you stepped back 50-70 years in time.
Fantastic, !
The beams holding up the next floor were exposed, had been repaired and must be over 200 years !
And yes-
They did serve us coffee-onevof the bedt we have had andvworth every 2.20
euro pr cup. What a lovely experience as compared with the turistmachine coffe automat further down.
Happy with this experience we went of to see the gardens.
They should not be missed!
I sincerely hope they manage to show them off as nicely as all these roses etc were now in may

There was no hot water so we could not take a shower in the morning. It was a shame, especially when we had a guest from overseas, who was in Granada and Andalucia for the first time. Our guest could not sleep well as the room was cold. The location is otherwise good.
The parador next door is a better choice.

This could be a wonderful place, it has the greatest of locations and certain elderly charm. The rooms are unpretentious basic Spanish with traditional old fashioned bathrooms & only soap provided. We couldn't close the long windows that overlooked the patio where residents and visitors alike were served refreshments until 5pm. Space is at a premium and the communal seating area is limited.
The hotel will book the tour of the Palaces on your behalf which is a bonus when the official site says it is full! The Hotel is a long haul from the Car Park up a steep winding access and it is necessary to revisit the car park with the hotel booking form to obtain entry tickets. Utter confusion at the desk the entry voucher had the wrong passport number attached, the bill was taken from our guests even though clearly in my name. More than 3 in reception and it was overcrowded.Which added to the frenetic feel.
Breakfast was abysmal with the waitress running around like a headless chicken getting nowhere
overhead on the patio where breakfast is served are oranges, so why did we get reconstituted orange juice served? No choice. a croissant, a roll a few small slices of salami, one slice of processed cheese for 2 people a kiwi and a plain yoghurt. Coffee, cold 8.50E each.
No evening meal is served although we were offered a platter of ham and cheese if we wished.
At a 3rd the cost of the parador next door it does its best, a little upgrading e.g. towels and breakfast would go a long way to adding to the comfort of the hotel

Room Tip: not directly off the staircase--the stairs creak.

This hotel is attached to the Alhambra and next door to the Parador.
There were a few things lacking - decent towels and toiletries and the breakfast was unimaginative. Rooms are small and ours had no real cupboard but we appreciated the location.

Whilst walking around the gardens, we stopped here for a refreshment break as it was a sweltering day. Walk through the door and out onto a patio with tables and grape vines overhead offering shade. It was a really nice setting and at €5.60 for two pints of Sangria, very reasonable for where it is situated. Quite a few people were having lunch and the food looked nice.

The rooms are set round the central courtyard of this pretty historic converted property so it is just as well that the hotel only serves its own guests after the late lunch favoured by the Spanish.Particularly so, as the window needed to be open to keep things fairly cool, as the air con was not due to be in use till later in May.

The reception staff changed over the 24 hr period, as you would expect, and Zoraida was particularly charming and helpful of a very decent bunch. The waiter has been there for 32 yrs and was nimble for all that- and great once you strike up a relationship- sense of humour. He even helped fix a problem door lock. Atmospheric , clean, comfortable and carrying its years pretty well, in a charming and slightly eccentric way.

Lots to see from the outside of the palace itself, as tickets like gold dust. And the Parador next door has lovely gardens and serves wonderful cakes. much to see in centre, and great views from the Mirador de san Nicholas in the Albycin quarter, with impromptu flamenco if lucky, as we were. Just beware the infrequent trains to , say, Sevilla. The resulting five hour wait allowed more last minute sight seeing.

Room Tip: One in the far right corner of the courtyard had its own spiral stairs.

stayed here in may 2014 for 1 night. this is a lovely hotel right on the grounds of the alhambra, a stone's throw from the nasrian palaces and from the generalife gardens. they have a great restaurant where we ate lunch upon arrival....6 euro sandwiches! the room overlooks the alhambra and has a great view of the city

it should be noted that that if you are just planning to go to the alhambra, this is a great place to stay, but it is not that convenient to the city center. we took a taxi from the bus station, which cost close to 15 euros. there is a bus that goes from the city up to the alhambra and stops about a minute from the hotel, which we used to get to and from the city (10 min ride)

overall, a very nice hotel to stay at and i enjoyed my stay.
