“Mediocre hotel”
Reviewed July 24, 2011

My husband and I stayed for three nights. The hotel was in an excellent location, had friendly staff who spoke English well and had a great breakfast included in our rate. There was one computer that you could use the internet but you had to pay a small fee. The room however was very dark and drab, had very old furnishings and could really use some updating. The window looked out into the centre of the building that the hotel was in, so we had no natural light. There was a good sized bathroom which was the best part of the room. The bed was not very comfortable but not the worst bed I've ever slept in either. I would definitely recommend visiting Granada because it is a beautiful city but I would not necessarily recommend this hotel. The room was fine for the nights we stayed, but for the price we paid I would have preferred something nicer.

We were conflicted regarding this hotel experience. On the one hand, the front desk staff were wonderful and accommodating, and the location was excellent. With the help of front desk staff, we were able to master the bus system, which we used to easily get to Alhambra and Sacromonte. The view from the balcony at night was magical, but windows must be kept closed and shuttered, to block out the noise at night. No problem, as the air conditioning worked like a charm. The bathroom was quite large, and had double sinks - a luxury, when a family of 4 are getting ready in the morning! On the other hand, we were disappointed with the room furnishings, which were shoddy. The lobby, hallways and dining area were fine, but the rooms themselves are really in need of some improvements. For example, the bedspreads were almost completely faded out (the good news is that they're obviously washed regularly), and the chairs and desk were quite worn and in need of replacement. This hotel could be upgraded to a four star property, if these basic items were addressed. Overall, I would stay there again, and consider it a decent bargain, given the location.

For the price, this hotel is sufficient for most needs. Its location is excellent: I came for a conference at the convention center (Palacio de Convenciones) and it was a 10 minute walk; the same for all of the historic landmarks and tourist attractions. Breakfast for a cheap 7 euros was excellent. The room was very basic but clean and the noise from the street can be annoying (i.e., garbage truck at 4AM...). Staff at the front desk very helpful.

The location of this hotel is fantastic. It is a 5 minute walk to the Cathedral, and say 10 to the bus to Alhambra. It is right in town and close to lots of great shops and tapas bars. The room we had was fantastic, really big, with a massive king sized bed (not just two singles pushed together as you sometimes find, but a proper King). Didn't watch TV much, I think it had the BBC. Staff were also really helpful.

I honestly don't have any bad things to say about this hotel, it was the best one that we stayed at in our trip of southern spain, and great value. We didn't have breakfast there so can't comment on that.

We arrived by train, and from the station you head straight up the hill, then turn right into the main street and catch the number 7 bus which stops pretty much right outside the hotel. We took a bus to Malaga when we left, and caught a different bus to the bus stop - I don't remember which one (it would pay to ask at your hotel if doing this as the bus station is further out than the train station)

The Cathedral is great, the Alambra I think is perhaps over rated, but certainly impressive and worth the trip.

You don't need a car in Granada - everything is either walkable, or easy to reach on a bus.

To me, this hotel felt like a glorified hostel. Very small room with flourescent high efficiency bulbs. If we had to do over, we would have preferred to stay closer to the charming old town at the base of the hill leading up to the Alehambra, which has lots of restaurants and still just a short walk to shopping.

We needed a one night's stay in Granada whilst travelling through Andalucia. Was worried what this hotel will be like due to low price (45 eur). We were amazed how good it was! The only thing we didn't try was breakfast, so can't comment on that.

GOOD THINGS:
- Great location. You are in the very center, surrounded by shops, cafes, parks. Old town with all the monuments is very close (about 5 min walk). Alhambra is also relatively close (about 1,5 km) and there is a minibus going from the Cathedral to Alhambra and back (1,5 eur one way).
- Room and bathroom were big, well equipped, clean.
- Good hairdryer in the bathroom, also shower cap and shower gel available.
- Window overlooked the street with a beautiful fountain, very nicely light up at night.
- Both lady receptionists (the one at night and the one in the morning) were very friendly, spoke good English, were attentive.
- There is an underground parking very close to the hotel (about two buildings away) and if you stamp your parking card at the reception you get a bit of a discount from the parking fee.
- Mini-bar available in the room with drinks.
- Vodafone shop is right opposite the hotel if you need to buy a Spanish phone card (don't forget to bring your passport!).

NOT SO GOOD THINGS
- The street is central and therefore a lot of traffic passing through. It is not possible to sleep at night with an open window. It may be difficult to fall asleep in the evening unless you are tired. We were really tired so it was OK :) To be fair, the noise goes down after midnight and in the morning it was very quiet, even around 9:00 a.m.
- Wi-fi didn't work, we were told that there is some problem for the whole hotel and they are expecting a technician in the morning. We didn't see any cafes with wi-fi near by.

Hotel Juan Miguel is very practical, because it's at walking distance of all of Granada's attractions, and has a central location. The uphill walk to the Alhambra takes roughly 30 minutes (20-30 minutes if you're energetic).

The room was clean, although somehow old-fashioned; the paints would need some refreshing. Somewhat noisy.

Internet access through WiFi in the room is free; I had decent signals in mine. There's also a public use computer in the lobby, available on a pay per use basis.

The hotel has a private parking, available for 18 euros per day. It is quite narrow, and has a lot of pillars, so beware if you have a big car. Make sure to contact the reception before driving to the hotel: they will send you a map and well detailed, step by step instructions to drive to the parking (the entrance is at the rear of the building, in a small street, and to drive to the hotel, you are allowed take "restricted" streets -- it's okay with the local police as long as the reception gives them your licence plate number once you've arrived).
