We have just returned from a short break in Granada staying at Hotel Alixares. After reading some of the reviews we were a little apprehensive, which turned out to be completely unfounded. The reception staff could not have been more helpful on arrival and our room was superb. Very spacious with excellent air conditioning and a fridge. The breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of food to suit every nationality. We had the buffet one evening and at E14 was very good value and the house wine at E7 also good value. We used the pool, with free towels being provided at reception and found it very quiet and enjoyable. The proximity to the Alhambra and the bus stop into Granada being just under 5 minutes away. Buses to Granada were very frequent and good value at E1.20. The hotel car park was full but we parked in the Alhambra car park just across the road and the hotel have an arrangement whereby guests receive a discount. We would not hesitate to use this hotel again and have recommended it to friends.

Room Tip: we had a corner room which was very quiet even though the hotel was busy

We booked this hotel because it is close to the Alhambra. When we got there, we found it was actually about 7 mins walk to the Alhambra main entrance. The car park we used is the Alhambra car park and you get a parking discount for staying at the hotel.

The price for bed and breakfast is very reasonable for a hotel this well positioned. The breakfast is good with fresh fruit, hot breakfast and everything to set you up for a day's sight-seeing.

They have an outdoor eating area on the 4th floor in addition to the restaurant downstairs. This has a view of the hills and is a pleasant alfresco dining experience. We had grilled meat from the barbecue. My wife's steak was very tender and the gazpacho was nice and cooling. Note, this does not even open until 21:00 hours, but you can get a snack to keep you going, by going to most bars in Granada city and ordering a drink. You should then find a "tapa" included in the drink price, turns up as well. The C4 bus from town, stops right next to the hotel.

They have a good pool on the 3rd floor, and a bar on the ground floor. The gin and tonics were not cheap, but the barman gives you as much gin as you can handle, as the spanish dont seem to use measuring glasses, they just pour until you gesture to stop.

It's not the Ritz, but it is a very competently run hotel, the rooms and the food are good and would have no hesitation in recommending if you are visiting the Alhambra.

The hotel is the closest location for visiting the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. It is convenient, but mediocre. The rooms were very, very hot in the afternoon sun with insufficient air conditioning. We had 2 rooms and changed both rooms and experienced the same problem in 4 rooms. The hotel staff was always helpful, but could not fix the problem. The refrigerator, phone and A?C didn't work in one of the rooms either. Parking is quite a distance in the Alhambra car park, and requires a great deal of effort getting bags to and from the hotel. Additionally, the hotel discount card that would have charged 15 Euro for one night of parking was not useful due to the machines not accepting the discount, requiring full payment to park. The best part is the staff and breakfast. Breakfast is abundant, a full buffet with very pleasant staff assisting. The pool and upstairs restaurant were nice. It is quite a drive to the center of Granada and nightlife.

Room Tip: Stay in a room that is not exposed to the hot afternoon sun or your room will feel like a hot sauna...

We only chosen this hotel, because its proximity to the Alhambra. When we arrived two busses with youngsters were checking. So you can imagine the messy circus. Although the hotel advertises availability of inside parking (which was requested with our reservation) we were told that the (small) inside parking was full, we unloaded the luggage from the car and parked the car in the lower public parking (P2) right opposite the hotel. The reception offered a ticket for reduction, but this theoretically nice gesture, turned out to be useless in practice. There are no stairs leading directly from the public parking to the hotel. Luggage needs to be carried up to the hotel reception via some difficult stairs. The room was large, with a wooden floor, rather sparsely furnished and generally in need of some refurbishment. The room was next to the pool, so somewhat noisy and we had to keep the curtains closed, to have some privacy. There was enough cupboard space. Very few electricity power outlets, with one very near the bath/shower (dangerous!). A practical sized bathroom, with corner bath/shower. The twin bed was mini-queen size, with very bad pillows. Yes, we could watch both of today's soccer matches (on the German ZDF channel. We had a good quality buffet lunch in the restaurant, where service was as friendly as it was efficient. Because there was no room service breakfast menu in the room, we handed our own handwritten note to the reception, before going to dinner. Breakfast arrived on time and was overwhelmingly over-complete. Conclusion: we recommend this hotel, more for its closeness to the Alhambra, than anything else.

Room Tip: Get a room as far away from the pool as possible

Hotel was great! it was across the street from the renowned Alhambra and 10 minute walking distance to the center of Granada; you can also do the bus a few feet from the hotel or a $7euro cab; the hotel is a little dated but the location and staff really made up for it. they have some nice seating outside the hotel that looks onto the street facing the Alhambra; it has an extremely peaceful location which I appreciated after a 3 day stay in the heart of Madrid; I booked it for one night, decided to stay a 2nd and then went on to stay an additional 2 nights for a total of 4 nights; it was the mid point of a 12 day stay in Spain, beginning in Madrid and ending in Marbella. The price was really good and i added the breakfast buffet which was decent; parking is available but shared with parking for the Alhambra and it costs $15euros per day.
For the solo girls: it feels safe but I am cautious so I would do a cab back and forth from the hotel if out in the evenings; once you are in the heart of town, it's safe to walk around. during the day, I lost myself walking the streets and many little off the beaten path areas and felt very safe. do wear comfortable shoes though as it's a very hilly area if you want to do a lot of walking.

Room Tip: Ask for a real double bed, not twin beds put together as they are not comfortable!

Hotel is just beside Alhambra, and really close to the center and 15 min. walk from the famous Albaicin which you need to see if you are there. Special the gypsy flamenco. woow It was amazing. Hotel has an offer, don't remember for how much, car coming to pick you up take you to albaicin then flamenco night with one drink and back to hotel. Just remember if you going out to see flamenco don't ever clap your hand during the show. its a kind of rude to do that. :) We stayed there 3 nights only. Breakfast was nice, rooms was clean swimming pool area nice, hotel staff was nice and helpful. I cannot complain. We arrived by bus to Granada bus station from there we just took a cab. this is the easiest way and not expensive. I would stay there again.
