“Short walk from the Alhambra”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

The hotel sits perched on a hill top with Granada's green valley below and it's snow covered mountain peaks above you. Built in 1910 by His Majesty King Alfonso XIII for his inauguration, it has been treated well. Every inch of this beautiful hotel is covered in reproduction "motif" of the Alhambra which sits just 10 minutes but foot (it's a very beautiful stroll) from the hotel. The standard rooms are small and the beds are hard with lower end bedding (scratchy sheets) and the bathrooms tiny but that would go with the era it was built in. The ambiance of sitting on the outdoor terrace and having cocktails (they are known for their Gin drinks) can't be beat. The food in the dinning room in the evening is good and the staff is pleasing and helpful. Breakfast is fair to good if your OK with European style breakfasts.

Room Tip: Spain is not known for it's quick service at meal times. Spain eats very late dinners. Pack some...

This hotel is ten minutes by frequent and cheap public buses from Granada, but very close to the wonderful Alhambra. Its public rooms have style and the bar/restaurant terrace is a joy for just a drink or something more substantial. Tapas were good here and the views sensational. You can while away hours here at any time of the day and we did. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable and well maintained. We did not eat dinner here, but breakfast was served in a large utilitarian room and was the usual Spanish eclectic offering with a wide range of fruits, cereals, cold meats and cheeses, hot cooked cookies.

The front desk was efficient and helpful.

They do not seem to have a car park, but your car is whisked away and returned to the little space in front of the hotel with admirable efficiency and no fuss.

There are some good walks in the woods immediately adjacent to the hotel by the Alhambra and you can stroll down this route to Grenada itself in about 20 minutes through narrow zig zag streets if you do not want to take the very efficient bus service from right outside the hotel which takes about t 10 minutes and drops you by the cathedral.

We paid for a guided tour of the Alhambra organised by the hotel, they bus you the few hundred metres to the swarming start point. Our guide was absolutely superb, erudite, enthusiastic and in love with his subject. The perfect combination. I don't know if they are all as good as this, because he was exceptional. The tour took about 3.5 hours and by the end we were feeling tired, but you will not get the benefit of really understanding and appreciating this wondrous gem of Islamic architecture without it. Highly recommended and efficiently organised

The best of the rest of Grenada is the Albaicin but you need good legs and stamina to climb the cobbled streets, just take it easy and slowly, the glimpes of the Alhambra from all angles alone makes it worthwhile. The route is bus to cathedral area, visit that, then stroll through the edge of the bazaar area to the Plaza Nueva, very touristy but a good kick off point for what follows. Go along the river with its terrific views, churches and palaces for about half a mile to the touristy promenade crammed with tavernas, then meander up through the Albaicin and to see the truly phenomenal views of the Alhambra from the Mirador. There are some good restaurants here too. Finish with a gentle stroll back the down the hill towards the cathedral area through the bazaar, stopping off for a beer or coffee or Ciento y tres on the way at one of the many bars if you need a rest, to pick up a bus back to the hotel. A great way of spending day 2 after the Alhambra on day 1.

The hotel was a very nice experience although pricey, but you get what you pay for. It was worth it in every way

Wow! This hotel was built in the early 1900s and is completely up to date. Large bathrooms completely tiled. View of back of Generalife gardens, complete with lots of song birds. Food was awesome and a good value --- incredible selections of every breakfast item imaginable all for 14 Euros. Staff was gracious and welcoming. Front desk extremely service oriented. Beautiful and incredible views of Granada. We walked into the moorish section as it was downhill and took a taxi back. Taxis are plentiful and only cost 4-6 euros depending on time of day. Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for view of Granada.

Huge hotel, must have been very nice some years ago....when it was up to date and new. Now it needs a refurb urgently- e.g. bathroom is old and warn out. Also service is rather 3 star.... Visible at the buffet breakfast which is all about mass feeding (not even real juice). Not to mention that internet is very unreliable at the room, only really works in lobby area. It has a good location and good views. Overall, I do not really ecommend it.

My husband and I had a fantastic two night stay at the hotel. This was part of our honeymoon.Ideal location if you plan to visit the Alhambra. Staff were great, we emailed in advance to request a room with a view of the city of Granada, this was well worth it. Amazing views, good standard of room, clean and spacious. Excellent WiFi connection. We didn't eat in the hotel, the pre dinner drinks were very good and served in the breathtaking lounge.

Room Tip: Room with a view is a must.

Booked another hotel online - when we arrived it was in a dodgy neighborhood. Drove around the Alhambra and found this gem. A four star hotel. Great amienities and services. Incredible view over the city and walking distance to the Alhambra. Grat terrace for drinks and tapas. A limitless expensive at over €200 a night - but you get what you pay for.

While booking this hotel, we were at first apprehensive of the location, thinking it would perhaps be a bit too far from the city centre. When we got there, we soon realized it was the best location in town! Situated in a quiet residential neighbourhood, 5 min walk from the Alhambra, 10-15min walk from city centre and with fantastic views of the city, it was the best we could have asked for in Granada. You can also easily reach Plaza Nueva, Paseo de los Tristes and Albayzin via a very pleasant walk through the tree lined 'paseos' surrounding the Alhambra. Location aside, the exquisite décor in Moorish style, the veranda overlooking the city and the Sierra Nevada and the helpful but not in your face staff made for a very pleasant stay. The only criticism is the poor bed quality - you could feel the springs as you lied on it. Definitely time for renewal of the mattresses.

Room Tip: Choose a room with city view!
